Asit Mal speaks on increasing wages for 100 Days’ Work

Sir, I would like to draw your kind attention to several crore day labourers who are engaged in 100 days programme under MGNREGA all over the country. One unskilled labourer gets only Rs 199, a semi-skilled labourer gets only Rs 286 and a skilled labourer gets only Rs 382 as daily wages. Sir, at this time of high market prices, it’s quite impossible to make ends meet. Then how do expect them to get proper treatment for themselves and also their family members? How do you expect them to pay for their children for school and college? I would like to propose to increase their daily wages from Rs 199 to Rs 300, from Rs 286 to 500, from Rs 382 to 600. I also request to increase the number of working days from 100 to at least 200. I hope Hon Prime Minister will consider my proposal and I invite all the members of the House to support my proposal.
