Sharing of Ganga waters with Bangladesh has:
- Altered the morphology of the river
- Displaced lakhs in Bengal due to devastating riverbank erosion
- Reduced the navigability of Kolkata Port
- Disturbed the fragile ecology of the Sundarbans
Before any renewal of the Ganges Water Sharing Treaty, the Government of West Bengal must be consulted. The Centre cannot impose unilateral decisions on matters that directly endanger the lives, livelihoods, and environment of our people.
