West Bengal Govt. to observe Child Rights Week

The West Bengal government led by Ms. Mamata Banerjee flagged off Child Rights Week yesterday to stress on the well-being of children in care and in institutions.
Several programmes have been lined up by the child development department. The inauguration was held at the Birla Institute of Technology and Museum along with NGO, Save the Children, and Kolkata Police.
Shashi Panja, parliamentary secretary, child development department, said, “We have chosen four NGOs which will reach out to four children`s homes in the city to create a child-friendly atmosphere.“ The government will launch a mobile learning library which will travel to the homes so that the children could read the books in the libraries.
Panja added, “Internationally, children`s day is observed on 20 November. But in our country, it is observed on 14 November. So we have decided to have Child Rights Week coincide with Chacha Nehru`s birthday. This is the occasion for all of us to reach out to the children and make them feel cared.“
The closing ceremony will be held on November 20 at Mohor Kunj.
