WBSEDCL wins SKOCH award for billing innovation

West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL), a public sector undertaking under the State Power Department, has been conferred with the prestigious SKOCH Order of Merit award. It was handed over at the 52nd SKOCH Summit in New Delhi on June 23.

The award was given for ‘Intellectual Billing with Automated Supervisory Check System’, which is an innovation in the spot-billing procedure for domestic and commercial consumers.

According to the press statement issued by WBSEDCL, the system has increased billing efficacy, data security and authenticity, and has enabled 100 per cent billing.

The mechanism involves multiple software facilities in addition to SAP IS-U system, which includes an Android-based mobile app (Vidyut Sahayogi) for meter reading, bill generation, layered supervision and storage of consumer data. Apart from paying bills, the mobile application will also help customers apply for new connections.

The award is an acknowledgement of WBSEDCL’s endeavour to provide 24×7 quality and uninterrupted power to over 1.8 crore consumers, said an officer of the organisation.
