Wave of development in North 24 Parganas

The district of North 24 Parganas has seen large-scale development in all sectors. The people of the region have seen a dawn of new hope in their lives under the Trinamool Congress administration.
Highlights of the developmental work:
Health: 2 multi-super speciality hospitals, 13 fair-price medicine shops, 8 fair-price diagnostic centres, 19 SNSUs, 6 SNCUs, 3 CCUs, 2 HDUs, 2 nursing schools
School education: In 7.5 years, 245 schools set up, levels of 177 schools upgraded; to stop child marriage and children’s trafficking, Kanyashree Clubs and organisations called Sankalpa set up in every school
Scholarships: In 7.5 years, more than 14.25 lakh students under Kanyashree, about 5.55 lakh students under Sikshashree
Higher education: Enabled setting up of 8 private universities; new campus of Presidency University set up and renovation of Aliah University building in Rajarhat, Harichand-Guruchand University and Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centre for Human Excellence and Social Sciences (Vivek Tirtha) coming up, 2 government degree colleges, 9 ITIs, 3 polytechnic colleges coming up
Farming: More than Rs 531.74 crore as aid to about 4.85 lakh farmers; 61 custom hiring centres, 8 oil mills; State’s first Honey Hub in Deganga, flower market (‘phoolmandi’) in Thakurnagar, Gaighata block, and Horticulture Technology and Dissemination Centre in Barasat coming up; food godown capacity in the district increased from only 2,650 metric tonnes in 2011 to 44,000 metric tonnes
Drinking water: Massive Rs 2,300cr-worth drinking water project for supplying arsenic-free water to 16 lakh people in 4 districts (Purba Medinipur, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Bankura)
Kisan Mandi: 9 Kisan Mandis set up
100 Days’ Work: About 7.29 crore man-days created from FY 2013-14 to 2018-19
Housing: About 1.26 lakh people benefitted from housing schemes, including rural housing
Mission Nirmal Bangla: North 24 Parganas declared Nirmal Zilla, being 100% ODF
Industry: 1 industrial park (Naihati), 1 industrial hub (Ashoknagar), 22 MSME clusters (including 17 MSME clusters, 5 khadi clusters), Biswa Bangla Convention Centre and Bengal Silicon Valley Hub in New Town, Mishti Hub in New Town; Mishti Hub in Bashirhat, textile hub (Jaigachi, Habra), mega powerloom cluster (Ashoknagar) and bori cluster (manufacturing centre, in Mamudpur) coming up; ITC Information Technology Park and Green Centre coming up in Rajarhat; bank loans worth Rs 8,978 crore given to MSMEs
Roads & bridges: About 3,280 km of roads built/repaired/widened, 4-lane flyover, 2 bridges built in FY 2018-19
Tourism: Tourism project, ‘Utsadhara’ based around Mangal Pandey’s memorial in Barrackpore; Dakshineswar Rani Rashmoni Skywalk; Eco-Park or Parkriti Tirtha, Nazrul Tirtha, Mother Wax Museum, Kolkata Gate, etc. in New Town; floating restaurant on launch on Ichamati River; renovation Malancha Tourist Lodge; Chandraketugarh Museum at the Pather Sathi motel in Berachanpa, Deganga; preservation and renovation of Governor’s House in Latbagan, Barrackpore
Samajik Suraksha Yojana: About 8.35 lakh unorganised labourers enlisted
Karmatirtha: 46 Karmatirthas
Sports: 248 multi-gyms, 25 mini indoor stadiums, money given to school playgrounds, Barasat Stadium; Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan completely renovated for the 2017 Under-17 FIFA World Cup; National Centre of Excellence under AIFF coming up; Sundarban Cup being successfully hosted; Naihati Sports Complex, Barrackpore Sports Complex and Bengal Football Academy and hostel (Khardah) coming up; stadiums in Barrackpore and Bangaon being renovated
