Wave of development in Kolkata

Kolkata, the capital city of Bangla and one of the most vibrant metropolis of the country, has gone ahead by leaps and bounds. It hashas seen large-scale development in the last eight years.

Highlights of the developmental work:

Health: 13 fair-price medicine shops, 21 fair price diagnostic centres, 9 SNSUs, 7 CCUs, 7 HDUs, 1 Mother and Child Hub at Calcutta Medical College (another coming up at Chittaranjan Seva Sadan Hospital), Matri Sadan in Khidderpore

School education: In 7.5 years, levels of 69 schools upgraded

Scholarships: In 7.5 years, more than 1.27 lakh students under Kanyashree, more than 38,000 students under Sikshashree

Higher education: 2 universities (West Bengal University of Teachers’ Training, Education, Planning and Administration, and Sanskrit College and University), 2 government degree colleges, 1 polytechnic college

Housing: More than 8,600 people benefitted from housing schemes; night shelters at NRS and Calcutta Medical Colleges (another one coming up at RG Kar Medical College); 5 hostels for working women under the project, Karmanjali; 576 flats for government employees in New Town

Industry: 3 industrial parks, Bantala Leather Complex (planned to be the world’s largest)

Irrigation: 2 pump houses, renovation of bank of Kestopur Canal

Roads & bridges: Majerhat Flyover being constructed

Samajik Suraksha Yojana: About 2.76 lakh unorganised labourers enlisted

Sports: 175 multi-gyms, 5 mini indoor stadiums; Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan completely renovated for the Under-17 FIFA World Cup held in 2017
