Uttarkanya ready to be inaugurated, countdown for CM`s visit has begun

Uttarkanya, the mini-secretariat in North Bengal, will implement the state government`s policies as envisaged by Nabanna in Howrah for the development of six districts across the region, North Bengal Development Minister, Mr Gautam Deb said.
Chief Minister, Ms. Mamata Banerjee is set to inaugurate Uttarkanya on 20 January right before inaugurating the North Bengal Festival, the Minister said after he had visited the site of the mini-secretariat.
“Policies will be scripted at Nabanna in Howrah for north Bengal and Uttarkanya will implement them to speed up development for the region,” he added. “Over 20 important departments, including my department, will start functioning from Uttarkanya soon after its inauguration,” he said. He said besides information and culture, the public works department and some other important departments will start functioning from the secretariat in the coming days.
Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee will tour the Hills, as she arrives in North Bengal for the secretariat`s inauguration. She will return to Kolkata on 24 January. On January 22, she will hand over the keys of the renovated Roy Villa, the house where Sister Nivedita stayed till her demise, to officials of Ram Krishna Mission. On January 23, the State Government programme to celebrate Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose`s Birth Anniversary will be celebrated at Darjeeling.
Written in deep blue on white base, `Uttarkanya` was placed atop the building on Wednesday. The roof of the secretariat has been painted green, while the walls are being given a coat of the combination of white and sky blue paint. Various species of orchids will be brought from Kalimpong for the Green House at the secretariat, while ornamental fish will be released in the Lotus Pond.
