There would be no discrimination regarding the distribution of ration cards: WB CM
West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee today held a press conference at the state secretariat, Nabanna to clarify issues regarding the distribution of digital ration cards.
She stressed that those who haven’t received their digital ration cards would get them soon. The system is in place, so there is no need to worry.
Also, those with old ration cards can still get their subsidised food grains. A delay in getting ration cards won’t hamper their getting their rations. In fact, rations would be valid for a period of two months, so that even if one is unable to take one’s share due to a delay in getting new cards, there is two months’ time.
The Chief Minister had a stern warning for those trying to play politics with the issue of distribution of digital ration cards: “Don’t play with fire … don’t do politics with this … The Khadya Sathi Scheme is for everyone, irrespective of which political party they support.”
She stressed that strict action would be taken against anyone found discriminating regarding the distributing ration cards, despite people standing in queue. “We are transparent about the Khadya Sathi Scheme.” She said that because of the 34 long years of corrupt Left rule, there were still some bad people around.
To let all the people of a particular area know when the cards are being distributed, announcements would be made on microphones.
She said that subsidised food grains are already being distributed. For this purpose, 1 lakh metric tonnes have been purchased from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the rest is being procured from farmers.
Mamata Banerjee also put forth her views on the rise in prices of life-saving drugs. She said that drugs for cancer, diabetes and other major diseases are already costly, and increasing their prices would put them out of the reach of common people.

মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী শ্রীমতী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় ডিজিটাল রেশন কার্ড নিয়ে আজ নবান্নে একটি সাংবাদিক বৈঠক করেন।
তিনি জানান যে যারা এখনোও ডিজিটাল রেশন কার্ড পায়নি তারা শীঘ্রই পাবেন, এ নিয়ে চিন্তার কোনও কারণ নেই, যা ভুল ভ্রান্তি আছে শীঘ্রই সংশোধন হবে।
তিনি আরও বলেন “যারা এখনোও ডিজিটাল রেশন কার্ড পায়নি তারা পুরনো কার্ডের মাধ্যমে রেশন তুলতে পারবেন। পুরনো কার্ডে ২ টাকা কিলো দরে চাল পাবেন মানুষ, আর নির্দিষ্ট দিনের চাল না পেলে ২ মাস পর মানুষ সেই দিনের চাল পাবেন এটাই খাদ্য সাথী প্রকল্পের সুবিধা”।
“খাদ্যসাথী প্রকল্পের উদ্দেশ্য হল মানুষের উপকার করা, কেউ কেউ এটি নিয়ে রাজনীতি করছেন সেটা ঠিক নয়”। তিনি বিরোধীদের উদ্দেশ্যে সতর্ক করে বলেন ‘আগুন নিয়ে খেলবেন না”।
ক্যানসার, পারকিনসন, ডায়াবেটিস ইত্যাদি জীবনদায়ী ওষুধের যেভাবে দাম বাড়ছে তা নিয়ে উদ্বিগ্ন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। তিনি বলেন, “জীবনদায়ী ওষুধের মূল্যবৃদ্ধির সিদ্ধান্ত পুনর্বিবেচনা করা উচিত কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের”।
