South 24 Parganas: Improvements in all sectors

The Trinamool Congress Government has ensured development through various schemes and projects in the district of South 24 Parganas. All sectors have seen big improvements.

Highlights of the developmental work:

Health: Diamond Harbour health district created; 5 multi-super speciality hospitals, 10 fair-price medicine shops, 10 fair price diagnostic centres, 29 SNSUs, 4 SNCUs, 7 CCUs, 7 HDUs; 1 Mother and Child Hub and a medical college in Diamond Harbour coming up; immunisation of 98% children, 99% of deliveries are institutional deliveries

School education: In 7.5 years, 470 schools set up, levels of 247 schools upgraded, 4 model schools

Scholarships: In 7.5 years, more than 5.62 lakh students under Kanyashree, more than 6.74 lakh students under Sikshashree

Higher education: 2 universities (Diamond Harbour Women’s University and Neotia University (private)), 2 government degree colleges, 13 ITIs, 3 polytechnic colleges (4 coming up)

Kisan Mandi: 8 Kisan Mandis set up

100 Days’ Work: About 12.01 crore man-days created from FY 2013-14 to 2018-19; Lego Gram Panchayat in Kotulpur block awarded for being best gram panchayat in the country in 100 Days’ Work in financial year 2013-14

Housing: More than 4.3 lakh people benefitted from housing schemes, including rural housing

Mission Nirmal Bangla: 100% of ODF target achieved, becoming a Nirmal Zilla

Industry: 5 industrial parks, 16 MSME clusters (11 MSME clusters, 5 khadi clusters), Bantala Leather Complex; Bhor Sagar Port coming up; bank loans worth more than Rs 8,700 crore given to MSMEs

Roads & bridges: More than 2,500km of roads built/repaired/widened; 5 bridges and 2 flyovers in FY 2018-19; 1 bridge being constructed

Tourism: Netidhopani Watchtower (the Sundarbans); Kolkata-Gangasagar helicopter service; permanent jetty at Lot 8 in Kakdwip; renovation of Kapil Muni Temple, construction of 1 guest house and 20 tourist cottages, lighting decoration of sea beach, and large-scale beautification on Sagar Island; renovation of Gangasagar Tourist Lodge (formerly called Larica); Bakkhali Eco-tourism Centre; renovation of bank of Muriganga River; eco-tourism project named ‘Jhor’ in Jharkhali; 2 beaches named Dheu Sagar and Roop Sagar, and Bhaghra Sundari – Sundarbans Wildlife Park (world’s first zoo within a mangrove forest) being developed

Samajik Suraksha Yojana: About 8.82 lakh unorganised labourers enlisted

Karmatirtha: 50 Karmatirthas coming up

Sports: 528 multi-gyms, 68 mini indoor stadiums
