Skoch Award for Gatidhara and Pathadisha
New feathers have been added to Bengal’s cap. Gatidhara and Pathadisha, two epochal programmes started by the Bengal Government, have won the prestigious Skoch Smart Governance Order of Merit Award. The awards were given away at a function in New Delhi on June 22.
Skoch Consultancy Services is a think tank dealing with socio-economic issues with a focus on inclusive growth.
Both Gatidhara and Pathadisha are implemented by the Transport Department.
Gatidhara is an employment generation scheme through which youths are given loans at affordable interest rates for buying commercial vehicles. It has been highly successful at providing livelihood opportunities to numerous unemployed people.
Pathadisha is an app through which people can know the positions of various buses traversing along routes in and around Kolkata via GPS devices attached inside the buses. It is used by lakhs of commuters daily as it has made travelling much easier by letting people know the exact real-time locations of buses.
