‘Safe Drive, Save Life’ impact – Number of accidents down by 27%

On the occasion of the third anniversary of the launch of the highly-successful Safe Drive, Save Life (SDSL) project today, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended an event at Harish Chatterjee Street today.

‘Safe Drive, Save Life’ programme is the brainchild of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and it also she who coined the name, launching it in 2016. It was started in Kolkata and later taken all across Bangla.

Over the years, the project has become a buzzword for following traffic rules in Bangla, and through the project’s success in the State, in other parts of the country too. The Supreme Court too had showered appreciation on it, holding it up as a shining example of what honest intent can achieve.

Highlights of her speech:

We have launched the Safe Drive Save Life project across the State. We have completed three years of the project today. Today is its third anniversary.

The number of accidents in Bangla has come down by 27%. The number of fatalities too has come down by 17%.

Police are checking, and imposing exemplary punishments, all across the State for riding scooters and motorbikes without wearing helmets.

We don’t want anyone to get hurt. Helmets are essential for personal safety.

I request everyone to follow traffic rules. Please don’t do anything illegal.
