Paschim Medinipur: Development of all sectors

Under the Trinamool Congress Government, the district of Paschim Medinipur has seen large-scale development in all sectors. The region of Jangalmahal has been opened up to various tourism opportunities, which have been a big boon to the people.

Highlights of the developmental work:

Health: 3 multi-super speciality hospitals, 3 fair-price medicine shops, 2 fair-price diagnostic centres, 14 SNSUs, 2 SNCUs, 2 CCUs, 2 HDUs, 1 Mother and Child Hub, 1 GNM training centre, upgrading of Sabang Hospital, 10 municipal primary health centres

School education: In 7.5 years, 872 schools set up, levels of 305 schools upgraded

Scholarships: In 7.5 years, more than 6.43 lakh students under Kanyashree, more than 4.44 lakh students under Sikshashree

Higher education: 6 government degree colleges, 7 ITIs (1 more coming up), 2 polytechnic colleges

Kisan Mandi: 11 Kisan Mandis set up

100 Days’ Work: More than 13.75 crore man-days created from FY 2013-14 to 2018-19

Housing: About 2.33 lakh people benefitted from housing schemes, including rural housing

Mission Nirmal Bangla: Paschim Medinipur declared Nirmal Zilla, being 100% ODF

Industry: 6 industrial parks, 1 IT park, 23 MSME clusters (15 MSME clusters, 2 handloom clusters, 6 khadi clusters); bank loans worth more than Rs 4,000 crore given to MSMEs

Jangalmahal: More than 33,000 youths got jobs in the police through Employment Bank; under the Jangalmahal Action Plan (JAP) scheme, 1,219 developmental schemes like anganwadi centres, drinking water projects, irrigation projects, classrooms in schools, roads, community halls, markets, various livelihoods projects, etc. completed at an expenditure of Rs 98.52 crore

Irrigation: Flood control projects being implemented in 12 blocks under Ghatal Master Plan, on whose completion 17 lakh people will be saved from a lot of damages due to yearly floods

Roads & bridges: More than 4,700km of roads built/repaired/widened, 1 bridge in FY 2018-19

Tourism: Development of Gongoni Canyon as a major tourist spot, setting up of tourist cottages under the brand name of ‘Gonosundari’, botanical garden, spice garden and orchid garden in Hijli Eco-Park, beautification of Gandhi Ghat in Medinipur and the area from Kharagpur College to Chowrangi in Kharagpur, afforestation on an area of 72.5 hectares under Kharagpur Forest Division, making tourist spots out of Birsingha and Mahubani, the birthplaces of Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar and Khudiram Bose, respectively; renovation of Mahamaya Temple in Karnagarh and the historic temples in Pathra and Karbala taken up

Samajik Suraksha Yojana: About 4.66 lakh unorganised labourers enlisted

Sports: 244 multi-gyms, 88 mini indoor stadiums, 17 playgrounds, badminton court of international standard at Aurobindo Stadium, stadiums in Koyma in Salboni
