My apprehensions proved – GDP down, rampant job loss: Mamata Banerjee
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today came down heavily on the Centre for the state of the country as a result of demonetisation. She posted her views on Facebook today.
Among other things, the Quarter 4 GDP figure during 2016-17 has come down to 6.1 per cent, a decline of nearly 2 per cent, and there has been rampant job loss across India, with the agriculture and the unorganised sectors being the worst affected.
Mamata Banerjee was the first person to slam the draconian legislation of demonetisation, within an hour of its announcement, on November 8, 2016.

Right at the time demonetisation was announced by the Central Government, I had voiced my concern that the country would have to face severe loss of jobs and drastic decline in productivity due to demonetisation.
My apprehension is now proven to be true.
The Q4 GDP figure this fiscal has come down to 6.1%. The corresponding GDP figure in the previous fiscal was 7.9%. So, the decline is nearly 2 per cent point.
Rampant job loss has been reported across the country with the agriculture and unorganised sector in worst shape.

২০১৬-১৭ সালে চতুর্থ ত্রৈমাসিক জিডিপির হার কমে হয়েছে ৬.১ শতাংশ। ইতিমধ্যেই নোটবাতিলের ফলে রাজ্য জুড়ে অনেক মানুষ কর্মহীন হয়েছেন। কৃষি সহ বিভিন্ন অসংগঠিত ক্ষেত্রের অবস্থার অবনতি হয়েছে। আজ দেশ আর এক সংকটের সম্মুখীন।
২০১৬ –র ৮ ডিসেম্বর নোট বাতিলের এই সিদ্ধান্ত ঘোষণা হওয়ার এক ঘণ্টার মধ্যে প্রথম এর বিরুদ্ধে সরব হয়েছিলেন মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।
