Mother and child care – A priority for Bangla Government

Under the ‘Health For All’ programme, the Bangla Government has taken several measures for the people of the Sundarbans and Jangalmahal, many of whom stay at remote locations. Many a time, it becomes difficult to take patients to hospitals. Hence, several projects have been taken up at the subdivisional level.
Steps taken under ‘Health For All’:
Mother and Child Hub constructed at Canning Subdivisional Hospital, to be operational at the beginning of next year. Its aim would be to cater to a large population of South 24 Parganas.
Overall modernisation of Canning Subdivisional Hospital
State Govt implementing boat ambulance service under Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram
Waiting Hut project has been nationally recognised, and has been taken up as a model scheme; several such birthing centres running in Sandeshkhali, Patharpratima and Gosaba
Blood banks started at Basirhat District Hospital (North 24 Parganas), Canning Subdivisional Hospital and Kakdwip Subdivisional Hospital (both in South 24 Parganas)
Blood component separation facilities set up at Basirhat District Hospital and Canning Subdivisional Hospital
Trauma Care Centre at Amtala in South 24 Parganas
Two medical colleges being set up in Purulia and Jhargram
Beldah Super-speciality Hospital to open by December
Disease detection centres set up: Two in Purulia, seven in Bankura, five in Paschim Medinipur, three in Jhargram
