As promised by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on April 20, the State Government has decided to incorporate the more than one lakh cable operators of Bengal under its Swasthya Sathi health insurance scheme. The process will start from July 1.

Mamata Banerjee was addressing the Cable TV Summit 2018 at the Netaji Indoor Stadium when she made the promise. She had also set up a cable television network advisory committee to resolve long-standing issues faced by the operators.

Both distribution and collection of forms will start from July 1. Initially, the forms will be distributed through MSOs (multi- system operator). In Kolkata, forms have to be submitted at the office of the chief executive officer (CEO) of Nandan, while in the districts, the same needs to be submitted at the respective district information and cultural offices.

A review meeting will also be held in this connection in the next few days and necessary steps will be taken if people face any problem in submitting their applications.

Under the scheme, one gets a basic health coverage of Rs 1.5 lakh per year and in case a person suffers from diseases like cancer, liver disease, blood disorders or need to undergo neuro surgery or cardio-thoracic surgery, the coverage will go up to Rs 5 lakh.
