For better pisciculture, Bengal Govt to improve conditions of water bodies

The State Fisheries Department is taking a host of new initiatives to improve the overall condition of water bodies across Bengal.

The most advanced satellite images of water bodies will be procured and examined to assess the water bodies’ suitability for pisciculture. Examining water quality – dissolved oxygen content, chlorophyll and turbidity – and depth of water are important contributing factors in the production of fishes.

The department will be providing technical advice to fish cultivators to improve conditions wherever needed. It would also make the water bodies free from pollution.

According to a senior official of the Fisheries Department, this project can be a model for other states to follow.
