CM gives away Tele Academy Awards

In a programme organized by the West Bengal Tele Academy, Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee felicitated personalities from the Bengali television world on January 3, 2014.

The West Bengal Tele Academy Awards is a first of its kind initiative by the State Govt where actors, producers and technicians were felicitated for their performances round the year.

The Trinamool Government had introduced Banga Sammanana in the year 2011 for notable contribution to the state; the Govt has also been honouring distinguished artists from the fielf of music with Sangeet Samman, and those associated with sports with the Khel Samman.

Earlier this year, West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee had given a go ahead to introduce a competitive section in the Kolkata International Film Festival. In the closing day of this year`s KIFF, she felicitated Pancha Kanya – the five Bengali actresses Moushumi Chatterjee, Sushmita Sen, Rani Mukherjee, Bipasha Basu and Koel Mullick.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that she was excited to honour the talented artists of Bengali television industry. Sharing the stage with veterans like Pankaj Sinha, Chaitali Dasgupta and Saswati Guha Thakurta, the CM said that current generations of TV actors are a talented lot.
The unforgettable contribution to television world of Jishu Dasgupta and Jochan Dastidar, who are no more with us, was given due recognition by honouring them with posthumous awards. 

Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Monoj Mitra, Sabitri Chattopadhyay and Madhabi Mukhopadhyay were also presented Lifetime Achievement Awards on the occasion. 

A colourful cultural programme presented by the artists captivated the audience.

The chief minister announced the State Govt`s plan to allot 6 acres of land at Baruipur for the construction of a TV studio. She also announced that TV artists and technicians will also be entitled to mediclaim.
