Chief Minister on a three-day visit to North Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee began her three-day North Bengal tour on Tuesday morning.

Speaking to media at Bagdogra airport, the Chief Minister said, `I have come to Hills with the message of development. I will address a public gathering where I will give away the `patta` to homeless`. She said that she would attend the prize distribution ceremony of an archery competition of the adivasis on Wednesday.  Besides, she said, she would oversee the construction of a ‘mini secretariat’ here.

The Chief Minister reiterated her stand on bringing development and peace in the region. She said, `I am happy that hill is smiling. Peace is prevailing in the hills after such a longtime. Some may like me while others may not, it is totally their prerogative but security and safety of common man is of prime concern`.

Later in the evening on reaching Mongpong, the Chief Minister took a walk down the area and also took stock of the development in the region.

`I will be happy if both hills and plains remain peaceful. Development is not possible unless peace and harmony prevails there in both the regions.  I am happy that tourism is flourishing in the hills`, added the Chief Minister.

She was accompanied by North Bengal Development Minister Mr. Gautam Deb.
