Chief Minister meets MLAs from Darjeeling
Kolkata, May 26: Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee met a five-member team of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha led by Roshan Giri. The MLAs of the GJM took oath and met the Chief Minster to discuss matters regarding the Hill impasse. The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has decided to be an ally to the ruling party in the State Legislature.
On Wednesday, the state government had allotted an additional Rs 140 crore to the budget of the North Bengal Development Council, taking the annual dole for the six north Bengal districts up to Rs 200 crore.
“The cabinet has decided to raise the Council`s budget from Rs 60 crore to Rs 200 crore,” said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after the second meeting of her cabinet in six days.
North Bengal Development Minister Gautam Deb, under the guidance of the Chief Minister, would supervise the utilizations of the funds.
“We are looking for a suitable place for setting up a Chief Minister`s Secretariat in North Bengal. This is also the first government to assign a specific ministry to the region,” added Ms Banerjee.
It was made known by the members of the GJM that Mr Gurung has also invited the Chief Minister to Darjeeling. Another meeting with Mr Gurung and the Chief Minister is to take place in near future.
