Bengal’s litchis to be exported to the new markets of Belgium and Bahrain

Litchis from Bengal will soon be exported in large amounts. Bengal is the second largest producer of the pulpy fruit, and the quality of the varieties from Bengal, especially Bambai, has appealed greatly to international buyers.

For a start, Belgium and Bahrain are expected to be the export destinations. For the first round of exports, a huge demand of 15 metric tonnes, made up of around 50 buyers, has been received by the exporters of Bengal. The litchis are going to be sent in standard packages of 5 kg boxes. They would be undergoing an anti-fungal treatment called sulphitation.

Besides litchis, buyers from USA have also showed a lot of interest in buying the Himsagar variety of mango from the district of Malda.
