Bengal’s cooperative Sundarini Naturals wins top award in milk production

Bengal has once again proved its excellence. Leaving behind Gujarat, Bengal has topped the chart as the best quality milk producing state in the country.
In an initiative to empower women of Sunderbans, a milk cooperative was started few years back. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee named this initiative in 2015 as Sundarini Naturals. Sundarini’s cow milk, ghee, honey from the jungles of Sunderbans, eggs of ducks and hens, moong dal and rice are in high demand. The profit money is deposited in the bank accounts of those women who work in this cooperative. This has helped almost 3,000 downtrodden women to fight back in life.
For this contribution, central government’s National Dairy Development Board has selected Sundarini Naturals as Ideal Model. It is for the achievement of Sundarini Naturals, that West Bengal’s State Animal Husbandry’s initiative Sunderbans Cooperative Milk & Livestock Producers’ Union Ltd has been selected as the best cooperative in milk production.
On the occasion of World Milk Day, the excellence award was handed over to Sundarini on June 1. On the same day, FICCI-Millennium Alliance awarded a cash prize of 25 lakhs to Sunderban Cooperative Milk & Livestock Producers’ Union Ltd for product innovation and organic initiatives towards serving natural and safe food for the consumers.
