Bengal Govt to start new housing scheme, Nijoshree

The Bengal Government has decided to start a new housing scheme called Nijoshree. This was decided at a meeting of the State Cabinet on June 20.
The scheme is meant for people whose monthly salaries range from Rs 15,000 to 30,000.
The houses would be in the form of flats, with all apartments having four floors of residences (ie, G+4).
They would be constructed by the State Government on Government-owned land, be it in municipal areas or panchayat areas. The locations would be urban and suburban areas across the State.
The flats would have to be applied for online, and they would be granted on the basis of lottery.
There would be two classes of flats – 1 BHK and 2 BHK. The former would occupy an area of 370 square feet (sq ft) and cost Rs 7.28 lakh while the latter would occupy an area of 559 sq ft and cost Rs 9.26 lakh.
