Bengal Govt to construct 30,000 flats for subsidence zone residents of Raniganj

On the basis of a study by Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA), the State Housing Department, in collaboration with Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL) is constructing 30,000 flats to rehabilitate the families residing in the subsidence zone in the coal belt region of Raniganj.
The preliminary work for the project has started and September 2019 has been set as the target for completing construction of all the flats. An official of the Housing Department said that they will be constructing four-storied buildings and there will be 16 flats in each of the buildings. Each of the flats will have an area of 39.13 square metres.
An area of 300 acres is required for the construction of the flats. As of now, taking land from ECL and the State Government, 158 acres have been obtained at three locations. An estimated 12,976 flats can be constructed on this area.
The departmental official said they are expecting the remaining land, as per the requirement, to be made available soon.
