All-round development in Purulia

The Trinamool Congress Government has ensured development through various schemes and projects in the district of Purulia. Among other things, water supply, both for drinking and farming, which has been a perennial problem, has seen a big improvement.

Highlights of the developmental work:

Health: 2 multi-super speciality hospitals, 3 fair-price medicine shops, 3 fair price diagnostic centres, 18 SNSUs, 1 CCU, 1 HDU, skills lab at Purulia Nursing Training Centre; medical college coming up

School education: In 7.5 years, 612 schools set up, levels of 145 schools upgraded; 12 model schools

Scholarships: In 7.5 years, more than 1.74 lakh students under Kanyashree, more than 2.98 lakh students under Sikshashree

Higher education: Sidho Kanho Birsha University, 3 government degree colleges, 4 ITIs (3 more coming up), 2 polytechnic colleges

Kisan Mandi: 13 Kisan Mandis set up

100 Days’ Work: More than 4.71 crore man-days created from FY 2013-14 to 2018-19

Housing: More than 1.45 lakh people benefitted from housing schemes, including rural housing; patta (deed) handed over to 75 jahar thans

Mission Nirmal Bangla: 96% of ODF target achieved

Irrigation: 4,680 hectares of additional land made irrigable

Drinking water: State’s largest drinking water project taken up (funded by JICA) to supply 8 lakh people in 9 blocks; 17 drinking water projects completed, 7 riverbed tube-wells set up in Teledi and Shimulia

Industry: 6 industrial parks, 20 MSME clusters (14 MSME clusters, 2 handloom clusters, 4 khadi clusters), 1 IT park, Grameen Haat in Dulmi; mega manufacturing and industrial cluster coming up; bank loans worth Rs 3,937 crore given to MSMEs

Roads & bridges: More than 2,600km of roads built/repaired/widened

Tourism: 4 tourism projects, including a rural tourism project in Joychandi Pahar; eco-tourism projects in Pakbirra; Bankura-Purulia tourism circuit and tourism projects in Murguma and Doladanga coming up

Culture: Santhali Akademi, Kuruk Development Board, Kuruk and Kurmi made official languages, Manbhum Sahitya Parshad, Kuruk Sahitya Akademi

Samajik Suraksha Yojana: About 2.25 lakh unorganised labourers enlisted

Karmatirtha: 26 Karmatirthas

Sports: 80 multi-gyms, 37 mini indoor stadiums
