Each vote against BJP will be revenge for attack on Vidyasagar’s statue: Mamata Banerjee at Behala
Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today addressed a public meeting at Behala Chowrasta in Kolkata South parliamentary constituency. She condemned the arson and attack by BJP goons at Vidyasagar College after the road show by BJP National President. Each vote against them would be sweet and complete revenge, she said.

Amit Shah had come to Kolkata for a rally today. He had brought in people from Rajasthan, UP, Bihar and Jharkhand. The moment the rally ended, BJP goons broke away and started a fire at Vidyasagar College. They damaged Vidyasagar’s statue as well. This has never happened before. We will not leave them, we will give a fitting reply through votes.
We all know who is Vidyasagar, and to dishonour him like that is a disgrace, a shame! But they do not. Why did they do this? We feel ashamed, we seek forgiveness for what has happened. Why did the police give permission for the rally?
If anyone insults Bangla’s heritage, I will not spare them. After doing this, do they think people will like them? Bangla is good without all this. There is no need for them to come and create trouble.
Outsiders created trouble in Darjeeling and Junglemahal. We had to restore peace in these regions.
Each guest house and small hotel is now full of outsiders who have been brought in. Taj Bengal and Swissotel are also housing these outsiders who have come to create trouble. Please be on the watch for them. The moment they start trouble, report the matter.
Modi and Amit Shah have done nothing except create trouble. Vidyasagar’s statue cannot be damaged like this, they cannot set fire like this. I will not sit idle. I will take steps and now I am full of anger. I will not take this lying down.
They are using the central forces to coerce the people to vote for BJP. They have hired goons and some CPM harmads have joined them after being lured by money. But even then, they will not come back to power.
The money power of the BJP has also been used to control central agencies. Being in govt, they have manipulated agencies like the CBI, IT and ED. They have bought over the media and tried to control the judiciary as well.
We must take revenge for what happened today, not with blood, but with votes. We will not concede an inch. Bangla will show the way.
