Bengal Govt to celebrate ‘Adivasi Dibas’ on August 9

August 9 will be celebrated as ‘Adivasi Dibas’ in Bengal. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced this decision during an administrative review meeting for Alipurduar district at Uttarkanya on July 11.

The United Nations has designated August 9 as ‘International Day of World Indigenous People’. Taking cue from this concept, Chief Minister has decided to celebrate the day as ‘Adivasi Dibas’ in the State.

In the last seven years, the Mamata Banerjee-led Bengal Government has been working for the welfare and upliftment of people belonging to backward classes. From setting a separate department for tribal welfare to creating development boards, Didi has taken several welfare measures for them. From Sikshashree to reservation, education loans to career counseling centres – she has been working for the holistic development of the backward classes.
