‘Khunti Pujo’ held for 21 July stage
With only five days to go for the annual Martyrs Day rally, leaders and workers of the party carried out a massive campaign across the state on the last Sunday ahead of the programme.
AITC General Secretary Subrata Bakshi visited the venue in front of Victoria House at Esplanade on Sunday. A ‘khunti pujo’ was held there.
He said: “It is the 25th year since the 13 people were shot dead during a procession in Kolkata in 1993. On the other hand, the Lok Sabha election is also forthcoming. In her address, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee will be stating the party’s roadmap in the present political scenario and will also give direction on the fight against the communal forces.”
It may be recalled that the incident took place on July 21, 1993, during the procession in demand of making voters’ identity card mandatory to cast votes.
In both North and South Bengal districts, party leaders have taken out processions with a focus on the forth coming Martyrs Day mega rally.
Senior leaders of the political party are also taking necessary steps so that people can reach the city and again go back to their homes without facing any inconvenience.
