Hilsa available at all Sufal Bangla stalls
From the State Government comes another piece of good, rather tasty, news – ilish or hilsa would be sold at all Sufal Bangla stalls.
Sufal Bangla, a brainchild of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is a chain of fair-price stalls selling vegetables, fruits and fish. They were started in Kolkata and are now gradually spreading across Bengal.
With the onset of monsoon, Bengalis are now ready to partake of their annual share of hilsa. From June 14, favourites like hilsa, bhetki, pabda and parshe are being available at the stalls of Sufal Bangla.
There are two types of stalls – permanent and mobile. The mobile stalls keep moving from one place to another in a particular area so that people get fresh produce right at their doorsteps.
The Sufal Bangla stalls have gained wide popularity wherever they have been set up because of the freshness of products available, and at an extremely affordable price too. Since they are run by Farmers Producers Organisations (FPO), who collect vegetables from the farmers of the rural parts of the state and bring it to the stalls to sell it, farmers also get the right price; no middlemen are involved.
The stalls are run by the State Agriculture Marketing Department, which set a target of setting up 100 Sufal Bangla permanent stalls across Bengal.
