Bengal Govt to construct hatcheries for vannamei shrimp

The State Fisheries Department has instructed the State Fisheries Development Corporation (SFDC) to submit a detailed project report (DPR) for the construction of hatcheries for vannamei shrimp, the reason being this shrimp has a hugely lucrative export market.
For the culture of this variety of shrimp, a primary requirement is clean sea water. For this reason, it has been decided by SFDC to set up barrages at some places, which will hold clean water. If required, these would be constructed at the estuary of the Raimangal river.
In the barrages, the eggs of the shrimps would be allowed to hatch, and the hatchlings can then be transferred to the hatcheries. This way, it would be convenient to raise large-scale stocks of vannamei shrimps.
