Tagore festival on the street
The state government has decided to free Rabindra Jayanti from the confines of Rabindra Sadan and bring it out on the streets. And everyone is invited to participate.
The government has also decided on a 12-day international youth festival to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray's and Dwijendralal Roy's 150th anniversaries will also be celebrated.
A nine-day festival will be held from May 1 to May 8 to mark the conclusion of Tagore's 150th birth anniversary celebrations. On May 8, (Pochishe Baisakh), an eighthour event would be held around the Rabindra Sadan premises.
“We have decided to hold the programme on the streets around Rabindra Sadan and the Academy of Fine Arts so that more artistes and people can participate. The programme on the concluding day would be from 2pm to 10pm. Everybody is invited,“ chief minister Mamata Banerjee said after a meeting at the Town Hall on Tuesday.
“We will chalk out the schedule soon,“ said Saoli Mitra, the chairperson of the committee to commemorate Tagore's 150th anniversary.
For Swami Vivekananda's 150th birth anniversary, a task force has been set up with the chief secretary as its head.
The youth department has been asked to gear up for festivals in the districts, the state and for an international youth festival, to be held in January.
“A state-level youth festival would be held in September. In November, the youth festivals will be held in all districts. The international level festival will be held in January,“ said the chief minister.
The government has also decided to name Muslim minority-run institutes after Nazrul Islam, while the Shishu Shiksha Kendras and Madhyamik Shiksha Kendras can choose between Rabindranath Tagore and Swami Vivekananda to be prefixed before their names.
The Yuba Bharati Krirangan at Salt Lake would be rechristened Swami Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
