West Bengal CM inaugurates Rabi Tirtha, pays tributes to Rabindranath Tagore at Writers` Building
West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee inaugurated Rabi Tirtha at Rajarhat as a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on the occasion of Baishey Shrabon. The concept of this complex was conceived last year and it was not an easy job to complete this upheaval task within a short span of nine-months.
Chief Minister planted saplings on this occasion.
The complex which is rightly called `Rabi Tirtha` (a pilgrimage to the world of Tagore who continue to inspire us with his creativity) is spread across five-acres of sprawling land housing a state-of-the-art complex having an exhibition room, auditorium, round-table conference room, open-air-theatre and a lake. Apart from that the unique feature of this complex is 40-bed-hostels for boys and girls for those who will come to research on Rabindranath Tagore.
Apart from the auditorium Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee also inaugurated the New Town Police Station and Techno India University by pressing the remote control on the dais. Chief Minister also released the Rabindrasangeet album `Tara r pane cheye` by noted singer Lajwanti.
`I am happy to gift you this state-of-the-art complex today, this was a dream I saw last year during the 150th birth anniversary of the poet but then we decided to construct this complex around the Nandan complex but inspite of my requesting the centre for financial assistance, we did not hear anything positive from them and I thought it is better to explore other avenues rather sitting over the proposed venue. This is how we decided to build this complex on this land at New Town`, said Chief Minister who added, `I am still hopeful though that we will get that plaice near Nandan as I have man y plans`.
`I am really grateful to all who have made this possible within a short span of seven to eight months, I know it was not that easy but I they have made it. This place will have a state-of-the-art museum which will house rare paintings and pictures of Rabindranath Tagore. I am happy that this wills also open doors for all those who would like to research on the poet residing outside as we will have hostels for girls and boys`, said Ms. Banerjee. Chief Minister said not only will this place be the research centre for those interested in the teachings and philosophy of the poet but will also be decked up in the philosophy of breaking boundaries which was the famous quote of Rabindranath Tagore, `Amar mukti alloy alloy…ei akashey`, this will be the philosophy that will adorn this complex and I am happy that the new generation will breathe in a fresh air`, smiled Didi.
Eminent Rabindrasangeet exponents performed Rabindrasangeet on this occasion.
Chief Minister earlier in the day paid tributes to Rabindranath Tagore at Writers` Building. `Tumi ki keboli chobi, griho pot e lekha, oi je shudur niharika` and `Amar mukti alloy alloy…` were rendered by Rabindrasangeet exponents which made the atmosphere quite `nostalgic` and solem.
Sharing the `nostalgia` of this day and her thoughts Ms. Banerjee wrote on her facebook page, `
Today is Baishey Shrabon. We respectfully pay our homage to Kabi Guru Rabindranath Tagore on his 71st Death Anniversary.
Down the memory lane, we always fondly remember Kabi Guru’s presence in every sphere of our life – be it literature, songs, poems or paintings.
On this day of Shrabon, when sky is overcast with cloud, and drizzling showers the ground, famous song of Kabi Guru – `Jharo Jharo Barishe Bari Dhara` comes into my mind. Our remembrance and obeisance to this versatile personality will always be too little to meet up the greatest contribution he made to the mankind.
In the evening, I am going to inaugurate the newly set up auditorium `Rabindra Tirtha` – a cultural centre providing music archive, library, art gallery, etc. at Rajarhat. The function will be attended by famous personalities like Dwijen Mukhopadhyay, Jogen Chowdhury, Shuvaprasanna, Saoli Mitra, Joy Goswami and performances by Mohan Singh and Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta.
It is a matter of pride and satisfaction that the concept of creating this set up was announced last year on 7th August, and within a year, the entire project is today ready for inauguration. So it proves, that if there is a strong will to do something, success will follow`.
Incidentally, today was also the birth anniversary of nephew of Abanindranath Tagore, the of Rabindranath Tagore. Tributes were paid to Abanindranath Tagore on this occasion also.
