State budget session to commence from March 8
The Budget Session of the West Bengal Assembly will start from March 8 and Finance Minister Dr. Amit Mitra will present the Budget on March 11, Speaker Mr. Biman Bandyopadhyay said after an all-party meeting here on Friday.
Governor Mr. M. K. Narayanan will address the Assembly on March 8 but the discussion will take place after March 18.
`I have received a proposal from the Trinamool Congress Legislature Party that since the Panchayat elections are due in the State, discussion on the Governor`s Address can be held after the Budget is over,` Mr Bandyopadhyay said.
Referring to the earlier instances in Parliament where discussions on the President`s address were postponed because of important legislation he said that the discussions on the Governor`s address can also be postponed.
He said that five to six new Bills will be introduced in the Assembly. The Session is likely to continue till March 21.
`The Chief Minister asked the leaders of Trinamool Congress to ensure that the members of ruling party exercise restraint. During the meeting I also asked the Leader of Opposition to see that members of the Opposition adhere to Parliamentary norms,` Mr Bandyopadhyay said.
State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr. Partha Chatterjee said that Dr. Mishra demanded an adjournment motion by the Opposition be allowed during the upcoming session.
`The Chief Minister said that such a motion can be allowed on the last day of the session. We have no objection to it if the Speaker allows such a motion,`
he said.
