CM inaugurates Bangla Sangeet Mela at Netaji Indoor Stadium, felicitates eminent music personalities

“Bangla Sangeet Mela, 2013“ was inaugurated today at Netaji Indoor Stadium in the presence of a galaxy of artists and personalities from the world of music.
The new government had introduced Bangla Sangeet Mela last year. For the first time, honors and awards were given to personalities in different fields of music, film and other forms of art. Highest civilian awards of Banga Bhibhushan and Banga Bhushan were also introduced.
This year “Bisesh Sangeet Mahasamman“ award to Manna Dey was personally handed over by me at his residence at Bangalore at 4th April, 2013 which I shared with you earlier.
“Sangeet Mahasamman“ awards were conferred upon 16 distinguished artists – Nirmala Mishra, Sabita Chowdhury, Purnadas Baul, Arati Mukhopadhyay, Bonosri Sengupta, Anup Ghosal, Haimanti Shukla, Usha Uthup, Arundhati Hom Chowdhury, Ustad Sabir Khan, Nachiketa Chakraborty, Ustad Rashid Khan, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta, Srikanta Acharjee Indranil Sen and Runa Laila from Bangladesh.
“Sangeet Samman“ awards were conferred upon 18 eminent artists – Purba Dam, Pratul Mukhopadhyay, Ruma Guha Thakurta, Promita Mullick, Kartick Das Baul,, Indrani Sen, Sriradha Bandyopadhyay, Tanmoy Bose, Bikram Ghosh, Pabandas Baul, Raghab Chattopadhyay, Lopamudra Mitra, Monomoy Bhattacharyya, Pritam Chakraborty, Jit Ganguly, Soumitra Roy (Bhumi), Anindya Chattopadhyay (Chandrabindu) and Rejwana Chowdhury (Banya) from Bangladesh.
The legendary Feroza Begum from Bangladesh along with Dwijen Mukherjee, Sandhya Mukherjee were present on the occasion.
The melodious renditions of the great artists, played to the packed-to-capacity Netaji Indoor Stadium, captivated minds and filled hearts with joy and tranquillity.
Bengal is the cultural capital of the country. Bengal`s music has enthralled audience all over the world. On the occasion of “Bangla Sangeet Mela“, we salute all the singers, artists and performers in the world of music, not just in the state, but across the entire country and the globe.
