Durga Puja Plans of Mamata Banerjee – the epitome of woman power in Bengal
Durga Puja has always been a celebration of womanhood in Bengal; more so now, as the State has its first woman Chief Minister in Mamata Banerjee. Being a symbol of `woman power` herself, Ms Banerjee has received nearly 3,500 invitations to inaugurate Durga Puja marquees from across West Bengal.
This shows that she is a true leader of the masses. All her supporters across Bengal want to share the festive spirit and celebrations with her. People want her to share their joy. She is a mass leader and yet she is like everybody`s neighbour.
Demonstrating her will to protect her people yet again, the CM has decided that even though all government offices will be closed the government will stop functioning, she will have the same work load and may be more, during the festive days. The festive season will not be a time for respite for the other leaders or ministers of her government as well. Mamata Banerjee has already instructed them to return to their constituencies instead of travelling out of Kolkata so that they can establish better public relations. She has also asked them to use the pandals as platforms to connect more with the people.
Over 3,500 Puja inauguration requests had reached the Chief Minister`s Kalighat residence, out of which she is slated to inaugurate 273 selected Pujas in five days, which even may turn out to be a `superhuman` effort. In order to accommodate all the Pujas, Mamata Banerjee has brought forward the inauguration schedule by two days – it started from Dwitiya instead of Chaturthi.
Some invitations were mailed to her, a few chose to call up her office to follow it up. And these invites weren`t limited to Kolkata – Murshidabad, Burdwan, Nadia and closer to home in Howrah, 24-Parganas North and South, too wanted the CM to be there. In fact, a three-member team had been set aside at her Kalighat office to rummage through these invites and forward the select few to the CMO. For the rest, the organisers had to suffice with a written acknowledgement.
This Durga Puja, there will also be more stalls across the state, exhibiting and selling literature and books written by Mamata Banerjee herself. The Chief Minister has instructed to carry on with these stalls even during Eid and Christmas.
