West Bengal all set to receive 829 new buses

West Bengal is all set to receive 829 modern buses from the Central Government under the JNNURM scheme. Transport Minister Mr. Madan Mitra announced that besides the new state-of-the-art buses, the State will also receive a grant of Rs. 150 Cr for the project to restructure the transport system in the state; the total cost of the project is expected to be Rs. 392.5 Cr.
Currently, there are 5 State-owned bus services in West Bengal. There are 589 bus routes with around 2467 buses plying. The new buses will be included in the state bus service. Kolkata is set to get 632 buses, 100 will be given to Siliguri-Jalpaiguri region and the rest 97 will be allotted to Asansol-Durgapur belt.
