Bengal Assembly to pass resolution on linking Aadhar to LPG subsidy

The Trinamool Congress Legislature Party will move a resolution in the state Assembly during the ongoing winter session on the controversial Aadhar cards and their linking with government subsidy.

State parliamentary affairs minister Partha Chatterjee said today the resolution would urge the Centre to reverse its decision on direct cash transfer to Aadhar card holders availing LPG subsidy, as most people of the state were yet to get the cards.

“We will urge the Centre to reconsider its decision,“ Mr Chatterjee said.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already posted on her social network system that she preferred one uniform card to cater to all provisions and meet all requirements of the people. “The Aadhar card issue will be another cause of harassment to the common people. It is the responsibility of the Centre to prepare the Aadhar card. But only 15 per cent people of our state have got the card. How will the rest of the people get their LPG subsidies if Aadhar card is made mandatory, ` she asked.

Mr Chatterjee said that the Supreme Court was not in favour of linking Aadhar card to disbursement of benefits under various government schemes.
