West Bengal in the High Tide of Development

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated a slew of development projects and laid the foundation stone for many others from the state secretariat Nabanna in Howrah. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will come into immediate effect once the Election Commission (EC) announces the Lok Sabha poll dates. The MCC does not permit announcement or launch of any projects. Hence, to keep the surge of development in the state going, the Chief Minister inaugurated projects en masse.

The proposed projects involve 10 to 12 departments such as the Agriculture, Agri Marketing, Backward Classes Welfare, Education, Health, Information and Cultural Affairs, Municipal Affairs, Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education, Public Health Engineering and Urban Development etc.

Distribution of bicycles, monthly honorarium to folk artistes and farmers, commencing the work for seed grooming centres and Krishak Mandi at various places in the state, a bus terminus at Kalyani, a housing project at Barasat, a drinking water scheme in Darjeeling, two flyovers at Garden Reach and between Ramnagar-Katapukur and a second campus of the Netaji Subhas Open University at Salt Lake are some of the key features of the mega launch.

Besides them, the Chief Minister also flagged off some ambulances for the districts and commenced a 40-bed female ward at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.

While the CM launched the projects from Nabanna, similar events were held simultaneously in the districts with Cabinet ministers and MLAs taking the stage.  For the central launch at Nabanna, a marquee was put up beside the state secretariat.
