We have set up Tarakeswar Development Authority: Mamata Banerjee
Trinamool Congress Chairperson Mamata Banerjee addressed the third campaign rally of the day in Tarakeswar.
Highlights of her speech:
We have set up Tarakeswar Development Authority, and renovated the temple.
Light Hub in Chandannagar, Mishti Hub, Weavers’ Hub, land for the ISKCON’s temple in Nabadweep–we have done all these. The state government and its agencies have placed orders for the next three years with handloom weavers.
Prafulla Sen was from Arambagh; he was known as the Gandhi of Arambagh. It was my good fortune that he had once invited me to his home.
Bengal is a land of rivers and temples. We have constructed dams to control flooding. The government has digitised for preserving the famous scriptures of Bishnupur.
Modi and Amit Shah want to divide Bengal. They don’t have respect for the state, can’t even say ‘Sonar Bangla’ properly, pronouncing ‘sonar’ as ‘sunar’. Why? If I can pronounce the Gujarati words ‘kem cho’ properly, why can’t they this simple Bengali?
The BJP has insulted Netaji by raising objectionable slogans.
Have they given Rs 15 lakh to each person as promised? They are giving rice for free but then raised the price of a cylinder of cooking gas to Rs 900. Spending thousands of crores for a plane for the prime minister, a new parliament when thousands of farmers are protesting against malicious laws. I support those farmers. For them, we have Krishak Bandhu, whose amount would be soon increased from Rs 5,000 to 10,000 per farmer.
Ration at doorsteps, Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme for housewives, Rs 500 for the female heads of needy families, Kanyashree, Rupashree, Sikshashree, scholarships for the minority communities—we have provided all these.
Don’t be swayed by their tactics of dividing the minority votes. And don’t vote for them anyway because their candidate was a Rajya Sabha MP who would go back to Delhi after the elections. Our candidate would stay here to serve the people.
I have witnessed in Nandigram the way they can intimidate people. They had gheraoed a voting centre in the village of Boyal, with petrol bombs in hand. I had to stay there for three hours to ensure everyone voted freely.
The CPI(M)’s harmads are the BJP’s friends now. The latter is even getting hired goons from Muzaffarnagar in Bihar, terrorising people even in their homes.
When seeking help in trouble, people never think of religion. Narendra Modi and his ilk are communal, capitalist. Modi and Shah, one a Hitler, the other a Ceaușescu. First govern the country properly, only then think of Bengal.
Ensure that the BJP is defeated soundly. Don’t let them stain this land of communal harmony with their divisive politics.
