Manish Gupta asks a Question about differential tax issues in the textile industry

FULL TRANSCRIPT

Will the Minister of TEXTILES be pleased to state:

(a) whether there is a differential tax treatment for cotton and Man-made Fibres (MMF), if so, the reasons therefor; and

(b) whether it is a fact that the fibre tax neutrality, if introduced, is likely to give clothing cotton product exports a boost and increase production, if so, the details thereof?

FIRST SUPPLEMENTARY QUESTION

Sir, the written document of the textile ministry has said that it has potential for doubling employment in this sector. The question is that this sector has a lot of traditional wealth; livelihoods are being supported in the rural areas.

This is a direct conflict with the automation and the digitisation that is taking place in the sector. Does the government have any plan to counter this change?

SECOND SUPPLEMENTARY QUESTION

Sir, the ministry has started the ‘Samarth’ scheme, which claimed to train 10 lakh youth in three years time. What is the progress so far?
