Mamata Banerjee dedicates Bangla bypoll win to people
The All India Trinamool Congress today swept the bypolls to the Assembly constituencies of Kaliaganj, Kharagpur and Karimpur.
Mamata Banerjee’s reaction on bypoll results:
The entire credit goes to the common people of Bangla, the voters who stood in long queues to exercise their franchise. I thank my mothers and sisters, senior citizens, people of all communities, castes and religions.
The blessings and love that people have showered on Trinamool, has resulted in the landslide victory. I will personally visit Kalianganj, Karimpur and Kharagpur to thank people.
Arrogance of the BJP has been rejected by the people. They have been threatening to bring NRC, drive citizens away and usurp their rights. We are all citizens. Everyone has their right. They have been living in this country for a long time.
The Constitution was promulgated 70 years ago. We are all voters. All are citizens. This new game plan to divide people, to torture them, has not worked.
Bengali-speaking people are being driven away from different States. We have seen it in Karnataka few days ago. In Kashmir, the hapless workers were killed in cold-blood. When no one stood by their side, we offered our help. We have given jobs to the families. We are with the people in good times, and at times of grief.
The CPI(M) and the Congress must understand that it will not do them any good to have an understanding with the BJP. They must become self-dependent. We support the Congress at the national level, but here they go along with the BJP. This is sad.
The culture of Bangla has emerged victorious. People have clearly given a message: ‘ek, dui, teen, Bangla theke BJP ke biday din”.
The minorities and Rajbanshi people voted for us in Kaliaganj. During Lok Sabha elections, they were misguided by certain sections and so they voted against us. Minorities, SC/ST, Adivasi, people of all communities voted for us. We are winning Karimpur also.
In the last 22 years, since Trinamool was formed, we never won in Kharagpur and Kaliaganj. We have won these seats now. This is a big blessing of the people. We dedicate this victory to them. We will keep working for the people.
Non-Bengali speaking people voted for us in Kharagpur. They are also citizens of Bangla. They are also our pride. Minorities, Hindus, Rajbanshis – everyone voted for us.
BJP is synonymous with bad governance and evil. People want to embrace the positive and discard the negative. They have witnessed the BJP’s arrogance in the last few months. The BJP does not even pay the minimum respect to people.
I have been elected to the Parliament 7 times and have won the Assembly election twice. I am in public life for so long. And now a BJP leader has come to the State who does not even have the courtesy to return a salutation. He is badmouthing about us inside the Assembly! It is Bangla’s culture to invite Opposition parties and I extend them the basic courtesies they deserve. We know our culture.
People of Bangla are intelligent. They always take a decision which is beneficial for them. I leave the future up to their judgment. People will decide. I trust people. If we do anything wrong, they will criticise us. And also shower their love when we do something good.
