Financial assistance to be given by State Govt for mountaineering & adventure sports

The Bengal Government, in order to enthuse more people, especially the youth, to participate in mountaineering and adventure sports, has announced an increase in financial assistance to those who will participate in expeditions to peaks more than 8,000 metre high.

This was announced by the Youth Services and Sports Minister at a function recently, where leading mountaineers of the state were awarded the Radhanath Sikdar-Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award and the Chhanda Gayen Bravery Award.

The financial assistance will be increased to Rs 7.5 lakh, from Rs 5 lakh. It may be mentioned that Rs 25,000 is given annually to more than 50 mountaineering and adventure sports club in the state.

The minister further said that awareness about mountaineering and adventure sports need to be created among schoolchildren, and the mountaineering and adventure sports clubs also have to play a major role in this connection.

বাংলা থেকে আরও বেশী সংখ্যক মানুষকে, বিশেষ করে যুবদের, পর্বতারোহণ এবং অ্যাডভেঞ্চার স্পোর্টসের ব্যাপারে আগ্রহী করে তুলতে আর্থিক সহায়তার মূল্য বাড়ানোর সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে রাজ্য সরকার। এই সহায়তা তারাই পাবেন যারা ৮০০০ মিটার উচ্চতার ওপরে অভিযানে অংশ নেবে।

রাধানাথ শিকদার, তেঞ্জিং নোরগে অ্যাডভেঞ্চার অ্যাওয়ার্ড এবং ছন্দা গায়েন ব্রেভারি অ্যাওয়ার্ড প্রদান অনুষ্ঠানে যুব কল্যাণ তথা ক্রীড়া মন্ত্রী একথা জানান।

এই আর্থিক সহায়তার পরিমাণ ৫ লক্ষ থেকে এক ধাক্কায় বাড়িয়ে ৭.৫ লক্ষ করা হবে। প্রসঙ্গত, রাজ্যের ৫০টিরও বেশী পর্বতারোহণ এবং অ্যাডভেঞ্চার স্পোর্টস ক্লাবকে বার্ষিক ২৫,০০০ টাকা করে অনুদান দেওয়া হয়।

মন্ত্রী বলেন, স্কুল পড়ুয়াদের মধ্যেও পর্বতারোহণ এবং অ্যাডভেঞ্চার স্পোর্টসের ব্যাপারে সচেতনতা বাড়ানো হবে ও তাদের উৎসাহিত করা হবে। পর্বতারোহণ এবং অ্যাডভেঞ্চার স্পোর্টস ক্লাবগুলোকেও এবিষয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করতে হবে।

WB Govt organises three-phased Chhatro-Yuva Utsav

The Youth Services Dept of the West Bengal Government is organising the Chhatro-Yuva Utsav like every year. Conceptualized by the West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee, the student-youth festival received tremendous impulse even from the remote areas of Jangalmahal.

Competitions and different cultural activities will be held at three levels: blocks and boroughs, district and state level.

The three phased festival that kicked off on December 10, 2015 will first be held at block/ municipality/ corporation/ notified area and borough level, till December 15, 2015.

From December 20-23, the competitions will be held at district level and from January 2-4, 2016, competitions will be held at state level.

WB Govt observes Sanskriti Divas on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan

At the initiative of West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee, the State Government has decided to celebrate Raksha Bandhan as Sanskriti Divas.

The idea behind this occasion is Rabindranath Tagore’s initiative to promote communal harmony by tying rakhis to Hindus and Muslims as a mark of protest against Partition of Bengal in 1905.

Sanskriti Divas will be observed by the state youth services department at all 341 blocks, 117 municipalities, 5 corporations, 144 wards of KMC, 20 district sadar towns and GTA areas.

The state-level function on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan will be held at Y Road near Metro Channel in Kolkata at 3 PM.

From the state youth services department, rakhis have been sent to each municipal and panchayat office across the state. MLAs and MPs have been asked to attend Raksha Bandhan events in their constituencies.

Apart from the government, Trinamool leaders and workers in every block and sub-division have started reaching out to people with rakhis since morning.

Tremendous development made under Trinamool in Youth Services

The percentage of youth population under 25 years is around 50% of the total population in West Bengal while that of youth population aged below 35 is around 65%. West Bengal Government, through the Youth Services Department has taken various steps for the betterment of the youth population of the State.

Projects like construction of multi-facility gymnasiums, mini indoor games complexes, new youth hostels, renovation of the existing youth hostels, setting up of vocational training centres, libraries and science clubs, computer training centres are on. Besides, special initiatives are being taken for the youth population of Jangalmahal.

Planned expenditure of present Government is 12 times more than the past Government

Comparison to the planned expenditure made by the past Left Government and the present Trinamool Government shows that the expenditure has risen 12 times in the four years from 2011-2015. The total planned expenditure in the last four years of the Left Government was Rs 33.64 crores, between 2007 and 2011. The figures under the Trinamool Government between 2011 and 2015 shows that the planned expenditure has been Rs 389.84 crores, a 12 times increase on an average every year.

In fact, the planned expenditure for youth services had been going down every year during the past Left Government, while it has been going up every year under the present Government. Incidentally, the planned expenditure for the past Left Government for the year 2010-11 was Rs 7.57 crores while that of the present Trinamool Government for the year 2015-16 is Rs 160 crores, close to a 100 times increase.

Initiative started for the youth in Jangalmahal by Trinamool

Jangalmahal was a fearsome place when the Trinamool Government came in power. Through various developmental measures, peace was restored in these areas and the youth population was given a large number of options that could keep them away focused in activities rather than taking part in extremist activities.

By 2014-15, 91 community hall cum recreation centres were set up in Jangalmahal, in the districts of Paschim Medinipur, Bankura and Purulia. The Jangalmahal Football Cup was also instituted to mark out the junior players.

Varied projects for the youth under Trinamool

The State Youth Service at present runs around 900 youth computer training centres. Under the present Government, vocational training centres have been opened for 22 streams in 60 subdivisions in 2014-15. Rs 2013-14, Rs 50.26 lakh have been spent and Rs 3 crore was allotted in 2014-15. For bringing up new talents, Youth Song Festivals are now being organized for the first time.

Besides other activities, funds are also being allotted for buying equipments for football, volleyball, cricket, badminton, carom, table tennis, hockey and other such games. The equipments are distributed among the 9631 secondary/ higher secondary schools, the 499 colleges and 11 universities in the State. The Youth Service Department has also constituted the West Bengal Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Foundation and instituted the Radhanath Sikdar- Tenzing Norgay prizes. A special prize for women adventure sports personalities have been also instituted in the name of Chhanda Gayen.
