The centuries-old fabric of muslin is now going overseas – to Rome and Milan, to be specific. After getting a lot of attention and appreciation all across the country, following the ardent efforts of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in reviving the making of this fine cloth, muslin is now going to capture hearts abroad.

The West Bengal Khadi & Village Industries Board has joined hands with the Italian Government to have some of the iconic traditional handloom and handicrafts of West Bengal exhibited in Rome and Milan this coming September.

Along with muslin sarees, baluchari sarees, and sitalpati and dokra artefacts would form part of a month-long exhibition spread across two of these biggest fashion markets in the world. The formalities for holding the exhibition were completed recently after the Italian consul-general in Kolkata met the chairman of the Khadi Board.

Since becoming Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee has been putting in unprecedented efforts towards revitalising the handlooms and handicrafts industry of the State. As a result, the industry is making good profit. About 11,000 people have been given loans to produce more and better goods. About 3,000 people have been engaged by the State Government to revive the muslin industry, specifically. All these efforts have enabled a lot of people become self-sufficient.

 

বাংলার মসলিন এবার যাচ্ছে রোম ও ইটালিতে

মসলিনের ঐতিহ্য ফেরাতে বিশেষ উদ্যোগ। এবার বিশ্বের দরবারে খাদি হস্তশিল্পকে তুলে ধরতে উদ্যোগী রাজ্য সরকার। মসলিনকে বিশ্বের দরবারে পৌছে দিতে রোমের সঙ্গে হাত মেলাল রাজ্য খাদি বোর্ড।

বিশ্ব আসরে মসলিনকে জনপ্রিয় করতে রোমে প্রদর্শনীর আয়োজন করা হচ্ছে।মসলিন নিয়ে সেপ্টেম্বরে একমাসব্যাপী প্রদর্শনী হবে রোম ও মিলান শহরে।

এ মাসেই মসলিন সহ বালুচরী, শীতলপাটি এবং ডোকরার জিনিসপত্র পাঠানো হবে রোম ও মিলান শহরে। রোম ট্রেন্ডি পোশাকের শহর – ঐতিহ্য ও আধুনিকতার চমত্কার মিশেল। এই শহরে প্রদর্শনী হলে মসলিনের প্রতি আগ্রহ আরও বাড়বে। সেই ভাবনা থেকেই এই পদক্ষেপ। মঙ্গলবার খাদি ভবনে এসে পুরো বিষয়টি পাকাপাকি করেন রোমের কনসুলেট জেনারেল।

উদ্যোক্তাদের আশা, মসলিন যেভাবে গোটা ভারতের মন জয় করেছে, তেমনই মন জয় করবে ইতালিরও। বিশ্বের দরবারে এভাবেই পৌছে গিয়ে ঐতিহ্য ফিরে আসবে বাংলার গর্বের মসলিনের।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী হওয়ার পর থেকেই মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় তাঁত ও হস্তশিল্পের উন্নতির ওপর জোর দিয়েছেন। ফলস্বরূপ, শিল্প ভাল মুনাফা অর্জন করেছে। ভাল পন্য উতপাদনের জন্য ১১০০০ মানুষকে ঋণ দেওয়া হয়েছে। মসলিন শিল্পকে পুনরুজ্জীবিত করার জন্য প্রায় ৩০০০ জনকে নিযুক্ত করেছে রাজ্য সরকার।  রাজ্য সরকারের এই উদ্যোগে অনেক মানুষ স্ব-নির্ভর হয়েছেন।
