Speaking at the inauguration of a community Durga Puja in south Kolkata, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reiterated today that she will not allow any riots in the State and ensure that peace and harmony is safeguarded in the State.
Extracts from her speech:
I will not tolerate any insult to Bengal, its culture, its heritage, its harmony. While majority of the people are gearing up to soak themselves in the spirit of festivities, a certain section is engaging in vilification, spreading canards and conspiring to belittle Bengal’s culture.
People will not accept any insult to the culture of Bengal. In a democracy, the decision of the people is supreme.
Lakhs of people visit Puja pandals every year. Do Puja organisers discriminate on the basis of whether their name is Ram or Rahim or Paul or Santosh or James? No. Do they discriminate on the basis of religion? No. Why should they?
We take inspiration from Rabindranath Tagore who had written: “Punjab, Sindhu, Gujarat, Maratha, Dravid, Utkal, Banga”. He had also written, “Hindu Bouddho Shikh Joino Parosik Musolman Khrishtani”. Dwijendra Lal Roy had written, “Emon desh ti kothao khuje pabe na ko tumi…” This is our culture.
This is the land of Ramakrishna Paramhansa Deb who had taught us ‘Sarva Dharma Samannayay’. We do not need lectures from others. This is the land of Swami Vivekananda and Sarada Maa. The divine mother is embodied in Maa Durga, Jagadamba, Kali, Siddheswari, Vaishno Devi as well as Santoshi Mata.
Everyone has the right to worship in the way they wish to. This is their fundamental right. If I go to a Muslim function, I am accused of appeasement. But when I go to a Hindu function, am I appeasing Hindus? I go to Chhat Puja also; am I appeasing Biharis then? When I go to the midnight mass on Christmas, am I appeasing Christians?
These allegations of appeasement are extremely humiliating. I believe in humanity. I believe the service of mankind is the biggest religion. I believe in a religion that stands for creation not destruction. I abhor politics of division and riots. I do not support violence or creating feud between people in the name of riots.
The Centre is continuously misusing its agencies against us. But I believe that with the blessings of the divinity, we will defeat such conspiracies.
Subrata Da here has been organising Durga Puja for a long time now. I organise Kali Puja at my home. We have never heard of immersions on Saturdays or Ekadoshi. There are attempts to belittle our festival and culture.
People are living in peace and harmony. But some sections are trying to drive a wedge between them and incite violence.
I perform ‘Chandipath’ every day. I also pray to Allah. I worship Maa Durga as well as Maa Kali. I pray to Maa Lokkhi as well as Maa Saraswati. I celebrate Eid as well as Christmas. Quran, Puran, Ved, Vedanta, Bible, Tripitak, Zend-Avesta, Guru Granth Sahib, Gita – we respect all. This is the culture we have inherited from our parents and we will safeguard it as long as we are alive.
We will not allow riots in Bengal. I am responsible for maintaining peace and prosperity. Those who try to destabilise harmony in the State will be held accountable.
বাংলার উৎসবকে ছোট করে দেখানোর চেষ্টা চলছে: মুখ্যমন্ত্রী
আজ দক্ষিণ কলকাতার এক দুর্গা পুজো উদ্বোধনে গিয়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বলেন বাংলার সংস্কৃতি ও উৎসবকে খাটো করার এক চেষ্টা চলছে। তিনি বলেন এই রাজ্যে তিনি শান্তি বজায় রাখবেন এবং দাঙ্গা লাগাতে দেবেন না।
মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর বক্তব্যের কিছু অংশ:
যদি আমার বাংলার মানুষ, বাংলার সভ্যতা, বাংলার সংস্কৃতি, বাংলার কৃষ্টিকে গালাগালি দেওয়া হয় তাহলে আমার গায়ে লাগে।বাংলার উৎসবকে ঘিরে যখন মানুষ আনন্দে মেতে ওঠে তখন একদল লোক আছে যারা কুৎসা, অপপ্রচার, চক্রান্ত করে বাংলার উৎসবকে ছোট করে দেখায়।
বাংলার উৎসবকে ছোট করে দেখানো যাবে না। মানুষ গনতন্ত্রের সবচেয়ে বড় বিচারক এবং মানুষের বিচার সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ বিচার। কারন মানুষই মানুষের পাহারাদার।
প্রতি বছর লক্ষ লক্ষ মানুষ বাংলায় আসেন পুজো দেখতে। তখন কোন পুজো প্যান্ডেলের কর্মকর্তারা জিজ্ঞাসা করে আপনার নাম রাম না রহিম না পল না সন্তোষ না জেমস? কেউ কি জিজ্ঞাসা করে তুমি হিন্দু না মুসলিম না শিখ না খ্রিস্টান না বৌদ্ধ? কেন জিজ্ঞাসা করবে?
রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের কথায়, পাঞ্জাব, সিন্ধু, গুজরাত, মারাঠা, দ্রাবিড়, উৎকল, বঙ্গ। তিনি লিখেছেন, “হিন্দু, বৌদ্ধ, শিখ, জৈন, পারসিক, মুসলমান, খ্রিস্টানি”। দ্বিজেন্দ্রলাল রায় লিখেছেন, “এমন দেশটি কোথাও খুঁজে পাবে নাকো তুমি” – এটা আমাদের সংস্কৃতি।
এ মাটিতে রামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংসদেব জন্মেছেন; তার কাছ থেকে আমরা সর্ব ধর্ম সমন্বয় শিখেছি। তার থেকে বড় জ্ঞানদাতা আছে বলে আমি মনে করি না। এই দেশে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ, সারদা মা জন্মেছেন। এই মাতৃমুখই কখনো মা দুর্গা, কখনো জগদম্বা, কখনো রক্ষাকালী, কখনো চামুণ্ডা কালী, কখনো ছিন্নমস্তা, কখনো সিদ্ধেশ্বরী, কখনো সর্বমঙ্গলা, কখনো কালী, কখনো সিদ্ধেশ্বরী, কখনো সন্তোষী মা।
কে কি পুজো করবে, কোথায় উৎসব করবে এটা মানুষের নিজস্ব অধিকার। আমি মুসলমানদের অনুষ্ঠানে গেলে বলা হয়, আমি তাদের তোষণ করি। আর হিন্দুদের অনুষ্ঠানে গেলে তাদেরকেও তোষণ করি? ছট পুজোর আগের দিন কি দেখতে যাই এটা বাঙালীদের না বিহারিদের উৎসব? যখন আমি বড়দিনে চার্চে যাই তখন কি আমি খ্রিস্টানদের তোষণ করি?
এই কথাটা অপমানজনক, অসম্মানজনক। আমি সেই ধর্মে বিশ্বাস করি যার নাম মানবধর্ম। আমি সেই ধর্মে বিশ্বাস করি যার নাম সর্ব ধর্ম সমন্বয়। আমি সেই ধর্মে বিশ্বাস করি যা সৃষ্টি করা শেখায়, স্রষ্টা কর্তার জন্ম দেয়। যারা মানুষে মানুষে দাঙ্গা লাগায় আমি সেই ধর্মে বা তোষণে বিশ্বাস করি না।
কেন্দ্র অনবরত নানারকম এজেন্সি দিয়ে আমাদের বিরুদ্ধে চক্রান্ত করছে। কিন্তু আমি এটাও বিশ্বাস করি যদি দেবদেবী বলে কিছু থাকে এই চক্রান্তকে ধুলিস্মাৎ করে দেবে।
সুব্রত দা এখানে অনেক দিন পুজো করছেন। আমার বাড়িতেও মা কালীর পুজো হয়। শনিবার ও একাদশীর দিন কখনো ঠাকুর বিসর্জন দেওয়ার কথা শুনেছেন? উৎসবকে ছোট করার জন্য এসব। মানুষ শান্তিতে আছে, ওদের মধ্যে অশান্তি লাগিয়ে দিচ্ছে। কেন এত হিংসা, এত ষড়যন্ত্র?
আমি রোজ চণ্ডীপাঠ করি। আমি আল্লার কাছে দোয়া মাঙি। আমি মা দুর্গার পুজো করি, মা কালীরও পুজো করি, মা লক্ষ্মীরও পুজো করি, মা সরস্বতীরও পুজো করি। আমি ঈদও পালন করি, বড়দিনও পালন করি। কোরান, পুরান, বেদ, বেদান্ত, বাইবেল, ত্রিপিটক, জেন্দাভেস্তা, গীতা সব কিছুকেই আমরা শ্রদ্ধা করি। আমার সব কৃতজ্ঞতা মানুষের প্রতি কারন মানুষ আমাকে এই পথ দেখিয়েছে।
আমরা বাংলায় দাঙ্গা বরদাস্ত করব না। কেউ অশান্তি করার চেষ্টা করলে আমার থেকে তার বড় শত্রু কেউ হবে না।
