Ever since assuming office, the development of the Hills has been a top priority for Mamata Banerjee. Unlike her predecessors, she visits the Darjeeling Hills very often, and has taken several initiatives for the welfare of the people of the region.

The Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) Act was notified in 2012. Thirty-five departments of the State Government have notified the setting up of their offices under GTA. More than Rs 3,925 crore has been allocated from the Hill Affairs Department for the Hills since then.

The situation in the region has remained peaceful due to the sustained efforts on the part of this government. Developmental measures aimed at benefiting the people in the Hill areas and Dooars have culminated in significant socio-economic improvement of the people residing in these areas.

 

Here are some of the development initiatives:

A. New District

  • Notable among the steps taken is creation of a separate district of Kalimpong and a separate sub-division of Mirik.

 

B. Development Boards

  • Sixteen development boards have been formed for the indigenous communities of the Hills and nearly Rs 320 crore has been disbursed to them for various developmental activities including the preservation and promotion of their ancient culture and traditions.

 

C. Infrastructure:

  • Renovation of NH-55 between Tindharia and Paglajhora and NH-10 between Sevoke and the Sikkim border, which were badly damaged due to landslides. has been taken up.
  • The construction of AH-2 and AH-48 is underway, which will improve the connectivity of Bengal with Sikkim, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan.
  • Construction of Bailey bridge at Bijanbari, Darjeeling has been completed.
  • Construction of two-storey building of Garidhura Police Outpost in Kurseong completed.
  • Special repair and renovation of Richmond Hill ( official residence of Chief Minister) in Darjeeling has been completed.

 

D.Tourism

  • In Kalimpong, eight cottages have been constructed within the premises of Morgan House Tourist Lodge.
  • NBDD, in collaboration with the Tourism and Forest Departments has established a tourism hub at Lamahata, Darjeeling district.
  • Two Cultural Tourism Centres are being developed in Kalimpong-I and Sukhiapokhri blocks for focusing of Lepcha culture and heritage.
  • One hundred-bedded youth hostel is under construction in Kalimpong.
  • Four executive class buses for foreign tourists as well as four small vehicles for local sightseeing have been introduced at a cost of Rs 2 crore.
  • In Darjeeling, an eco-friendly tourist lodge is being developed at Tiger Hill. The Siliguri Royal Tiger Safari has been introduced, which will be the first tiger safari in Bengal.

 

E. Education

  • Model schools in Sukna, Mongarjung and RKSP in Darjeeling district have been established. The model Schools have been commissioned.
  • Two degree colleges have been established in Pedong and Gorubathan.
  • An ITI and a polytechnic college are being built up in Kalimpong. Another ITI is being set up at Gorubathan.
  • In Kurseong, Dow Hill is being developed as an education hub. The Himalayan Centre of Presidency University is also being established at the same place.

 

F. Health

  • In Kalimpong, one high-dependency unit (HDU) has been set up. Eight SNSUs have been set up in the district of Darjeeling. Two CCUs have been established in Siliguri and Darjeeling.
  • Four fair price medicine shops have been set up in Darjeeling, Siliguri, Kurseong and Naxalbari.
  • In Kurseong, a medical college is being set up. Moreover, four sub-centres are ready to be commissioned.

 

G. Other initiatives

  • The government has decided to lay emphasis on eco and village tourism, setting up of new health centres, agriculture and horticulture as well as skill development schemes in the areas of hospitality, security services (unarmed), handloom, handicrafts etc.
  • The Himal-Terai-Dooars sports festivals are being held to encourage the youth of the region to participate in sports and games.
  • Rs 182.06 lakh allotted to Ram Krishna Sewa Ashram for the renovation of Roy Villa in Darjeeling. Memoirs of Sister Nivedita, during her stay at Darjeeling, and other valuable records have been kept there.
  • Residents of the Hills, including both workers and non-workers and their families of the tea gardens, have been included in the Khadya Sathi Scheme through which they get foodgrains at highly subsidised rates.

 

সাত বছরে পাহাড়ের সার্বিক উন্নয়নঃ এক নজরে

বিগত ৩৪ বছরের বাম আমলে কার্যত পাহাড় ছিল অবহেলিত। না ছিল কোনও উন্নয়নের প্রকল্প, না ছিল উন্নয়ন করার কোনও সদিচ্ছা বা পরিকল্পনা। ২০১১ সালে ক্ষমতা বদল হয়ে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস শাসনভার গ্রহণ করার পর থেকে পাহাড় হাসছে।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের অনুপ্রেরণায় পাহাড়ের উন্নয়নকে পাখির চোখ করে একের পর এক প্রকল্প নেওয়া হয়েছে, পাহাড়ের পিছিয়ে পড়া মানুষগুলোকে এগিয়ে আসার সুযোগ করে দেওয়া হয়েছে।

২০১২ সালে জিটিএ অ্যাক্টের বিজ্ঞপ্তি প্রকাশ করা হয়। পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকারের ৩৫টি দপ্তর জিটিএ অ্যাক্টের অধীনে নিজেদের অফিস তৈরীর কথা ঘোষণা করেছে।
পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকারের পার্বত্য বিষয়ক বিভাগ গত ছয় বছরে পার্বত্য এলাকার উন্নয়নের জন্য ৩৯২৫ কোটি টাকা বরাদ্দ করে।

সরকারের দীর্ঘকালীন প্রচেষ্টার ফলে দার্জিলিং জেলা ও ডুয়ার্স অঞ্চলের পরিস্থিতি বর্তমানে স্বাভাবিক। উন্নয়নমুখী নানা প্রকল্পের ফলে পার্বত্য অঞ্চলের মানুষের আর্থ-সামাজিক পরিস্থিতি আগের চেয়ে ভালো হয়ে উঠেছে। ফলে সমগ্র অঞ্চলে বর্তমানে শান্তির পরিবেশ বজায় রয়েছে।

 

একনজরে দেখে নেওয়া যাক গত ছয় বছরে পাহাড়ের উন্নয়নের জন্য নেওয়া সরকারের কিছু পদক্ষেপঃ-

নতুন জেলা

  • একটি উল্লেখযোগ্য পদক্ষেপ হিসেবে কালিম্পং-কে একটি পৃথক জেলা ও মিরিক-কে পৃথক মহকুমা হিসেবে ঘোষণা করা হয়েছে।

 

বোর্ড গঠন

  • স্থানীয় জনগোষ্ঠীগুলির উন্নয়নের কথা মাথায় রেখে ১৬টি বোর্ড গঠন করা হয়েছে। প্রাচীন ঐতিহ্য ও সংস্কৃতি সংরক্ষন-সহ অন্যান্য উন্নয়নমুখী প্রকল্পে ইতিমধ্যেই ৩২০ কোটি টাকা প্রদান করা হয়েছে।

 

পরিকাঠামো উন্নয়ন

  • পার্বত্য এলাকায় সড়ক পরিকাঠামো উন্নয়নে সরকার বিশেষ গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেছে।
  • ধসে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত তিনধরিয়া এবং পাগলাঝোরার মধ্যবর্তী ৫৫নম্বর জাতীয় সড়ক, সেবক ও সিকিমের মধ্যবর্তী ১০ নম্বর জাতীয় সড়কের সংস্কার চলছে।
  • এএইচ ২ এবং এএইচ ৪৮ এর নির্মাণের কাজ চলছে। এই দুটি সড়ক চালু হলে পশ্চিমবঙ্গের সঙ্গে সিকিম, নেপাল, বাংলাদেশ এবং ভুটানের যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থার প্রভূত উন্নতি হবে।
  • দার্জিলিঙের বিজনবাড়িতে বেইলি সেতুর নির্মাণকাজ সম্পূর্ণ হয়েছে।

 

পর্যটন

  • পার্বত্য অঞ্চলে পর্যটন শিল্পের বিকাশের জন্য পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকার চেষ্টা করে চলেছে।
  • কালিম্পং-এ মর্গ্যান টুরিস্ট সংলগ্ন এলাকায় ৮টি কটেজ গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে।
  • লেপচা সংস্কৃতির ঐতিহ্যকে কেন্দ্র করে কালিম্পং-১ এবং সুখিয়াপোখরি ব্লকে ২টি সাংস্কৃতিক পর্যটন কেন্দ্র গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে।
  • কালিম্পং-এ ১০০টি আসনসম্পন্ন একটি ইয়ুথ হোস্টেল তৈরী করা হচ্ছে। নতুন পর্যটন কেন্দ্র গড়ে তোলার কাজে ইতিমধ্যেই ২৯.৪ কোটি টাকা ব্যয় করা হয়েছে।
  • ২কোটি টাকা খরচ করে বিদেশী পর্যটকদের সুবিধার্থে ৪টি একজিকিউটিভ শ্রেণীর বাস এবং স্থানীয় জায়গাগুলি ঘুরে দেখার জন্য ৪টি ছোট গাড়ি কেনা হয়েছে।
  • দার্জিলিঙের টাইগার হিলে একটি পরিবেশবান্ধব টুরিস্ট লজ গড়ে তোলা হচ্ছে।
  • পশ্চিমবঙ্গের প্রথম টাইগার সাফারি হিসাবে শিলিগুড়ি রয়্যাল টাইগার সাফারি গড়ে উঠেছে।
  • দার্জিলিং-এর লামাহাটায় উত্তরবঙ্গ উন্নয়ন বিভাগ, পর্যটন ও বোন দপ্তরের সহায়তায় একটি পর্যটন হাব স্থাপন করেছে এবং সেটি মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী ২৭শে জানুয়ারি ২০১৩-এ উদ্বোধন করেছেন।
  • কালিম্পং-এ মর্গ্যান হাউস, হিলটপ এবং তাসিডাঙা টুরিস্ট লজের মেরামতি ও সংস্কার কাজ এবং জলদাপাড়া ও মূর্তিতে তাঁবু তৈরীর কাজ সম্পূর্ণ হয়েছে।

 

শিক্ষা

  • সুকনা ও মোঙ্গরজঙেম, ডেলস্কুল, দার্জিলিং-এ আরকেএএসপি গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে।
  • ২০১৭-১৮’র শিক্ষাবর্ষে মডেল স্কুলগুলিতে পঠন-পাঠন চালু হবে।
  • পেডং এবং গরুবাথানে দুটি ডিগ্রী কলেজ গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে।
  • কালিম্পং-এ একটি নতুন আইটিআই এবং একটি পলিটেকনিক কলেজ গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে। গরুবাথানে আরও একটি আইটিআই তৈরীর কাজ চলছে।
  • কার্শিয়াং-এর ডাওহিলকে একটি শিক্ষাকেন্দ্র হিসাবে গড়ে তোলার কাজ চলছে। এই অঞ্চলে প্রেসিডেন্সি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের হিমালয়ান সেন্টার গড়ে তোলার কাজ চলছে।

 

স্বাস্থ্য

  • কালিম্পং-এ একটি হাই ডিপেনডেন্সি ইউনিট (HDU) গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে।
  • দার্জিলিং জেলায় ৮টি এসএনএসইউ গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে।
  • শিলিগুড়ি এবং দার্জিলিং-এ ২টি সিসিইউ গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে।
  • দার্জিলিং, শিলিগুড়ি, কার্শিয়াং এবং নকশালবাড়িতে ৪টি ন্যায্য মূল্যের ওষুধের দোকান তৈরী করা হয়েছে।
  • কার্শিয়াং-এ একটি নতুন মেডিক্যাল কলেজ গড়ে তোলা হচ্ছে। পাশাপাশি ১০০ বেডের ইএসআই হাসপাতাল গড়ে তোলা হচ্ছে শিলিগুড়িতে। এছাড়াও ৪টি উপকেন্দ্র কাজ শুরুর অপেক্ষায় রয়েছে।

 

অন্যান্য কর্মসূচি

  • স্থানীয় ছেলেমেয়েদের খেলাধূলায় উৎসাহ দেওয়ার জন্য হিমল-তরাই-ডুয়ার্স ক্রীড়া উৎসব অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করা হয়েছে।
  • দার্জিলিং-এর রায়ভিলার সংস্কার কাজের জন্য রামকৃষ্ণ সেবা আশ্রমকে ১৮২.০৬ লক্ষ টাকা বরাদ্দ করা হয়েছে। দার্জিলিং-এ থাকাকালীন ভগিনী নিবেদিতার স্মৃতি এবং অন্যান্য মূল্যবান রেকর্ডসমূহ সেখানে রাখা হয়েছে। এটি দার্জিলিং-এর ভ্রমণ ম্যাপের সঙ্গে যুক্ত করার প্রস্তাব দেওয়া হয়েছে।
  • দার্জিলিং-এর কার্শিয়াং-এ টয়লেট ব্লকসহ গাড়িধুরা পুলিশ ফাঁড়ির দোতলা ভবনের নির্মাণকাজ সম্পূর্ণ হয়েছে।

The Bengal Government has instituted a bravery award for girls in the memory of the philanthropist and social reformer, and one of Swami Vivekananda’s foremost disciples, Sister Nivedita. The decision was taken recently by the committee formed by the government to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Nivedita.

The awards have been decided to be handed over on October 5 at Netaji Indoor Stadium, during the course of a programme on the social reformer.

Sister Nivedita, for her whole life, worked tirelessly for the education and all-round empowerment of women, hence the State Government decided to constitute the award in her memory.

The other decisions taken by the committee on that day include the distribution of a collected works of Sister Nivedita, to be compiled by Ramakrishna Math and Mission, among students from standards IX to XII in State Government-run schools and the renovation of the mausoleum of the Sister in Darjeeling.

Earlier decisions taken with regard to the sesquicentennial celebrations include converting the house of Sister Nivedita in Darjeeling into an educational centre of excellence and the granting of 5 acres in Rajarhat to Ramakrishna Mission for the setting up of a humanitarian centre of excellence.

Under the express instructions of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the State Government has been extensively celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Sister Nivedita, to inculcate in today’s youth the humane values she stood for, just as it had done for the 150th birth anniversary of her guru, Swami Vivekananda.

 

 

ভগিনী নিবেদিতার নামে সাহসিকতার পুরস্কার

 

ভগিনী নিবেদিতার জন্ম সার্ধ শতবর্ষে মেয়েদের জন্য সাহসিকতার পুরস্কার চালু করছে রাজ্য সরকার। ভগিনী নিবেদিতার জন্ম সার্ধ শতবর্ষ উদ্‌যাপন কমিটি এই সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছেন রামকৃষ্ণ মঠ ও মিশনের সাধারণ সম্পাদক স্বামী সুবীরানন্দ মহারাজ।
এই বছরে ৫ অক্টোবর ভগিনী নিবেদিতাকে নিয়ে নেতাজি ইন্ডোর স্টেডিয়ামে একটি অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করেছে রাজ্য সরকার। এই অনুষ্ঠানে মেয়েদের বিভিন্ন সাহসিকতামূলক কাজের জন্য এই পুরস্কার দেওয়া হবে। নারী সমাজের উন্নয়ন, নারী শিক্ষা, নারীর অধিকার নিয়ে ‌ভগিনী নিবেদিতা সারা জীবন কাজ করেছেন। তাই তাঁর নামে এই সাহসিকতার পুরস্কার চালু করছে রাজ্য সরকার।
এছাড়াও ভগিনী নিবেদিতার বিভিন্ন লেখা নিয়ে একটি সঙ্কলন তৈরি করবে রামকৃষ্ণ মঠ ও মিশন। সেই সঙ্কলনটি রাজ্য সরকার স্কুল ও কলেজের ছাত্রছাত্রীদের মধ্যে বিতরণ করবে। বিশেষ করে নবম থেকে দ্বাদশ শ্রেণি পর্যন্ত পড়ুয়াদের মধ্যে সঙ্কলনটি পড়ার জন্য দেওয়া হবে, যাতে ভগিনী নিবেদিতার চিন্তাধারায় তারাও উদ্বুদ্ধ হতে পারে।
মহারাজ এদিন বলেন, স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের সার্ধ শতবর্ষ যেভাবে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের সরকার পালন করেছে, তা আর কোনও সরকার করেনি। ঠিক একইভাবে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকার ভগিনী নিবেদিতার জন্ম সার্ধ শতবর্ষও উদযাপন করছে।
কমিটির বৈঠকে শিক্ষামন্ত্রীর উপস্থিতিতে সিদ্ধান্ত হয়েছে দার্জিলিঙে ভগিনী নিবেদিতার সমাধিস্থল সংস্কার এবং সৌন্দর্যায়ন করা হবে। আগেই ঠিক হয়েছিল দার্জিলিঙে ভগিনী নিবেদিতার বাড়িতে শিক্ষার প্রসারে উৎকর্ষ কেন্দ্র তৈরি করা হবে।
এখানে রাজারহাটে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকার ৫ একর জমি রামকৃষ্ণ মিশনকে দিয়েছে, ভগিনী নিবেদিতার নামে মানবিক উৎকর্ষ কেন্দ্র গড়ে তোলার জন্য।‌‌

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday urged investors to come to Bengal where the government is business-friendly and talent is unlimited. She said this while addressing the FICCI-UKIBC round table in London.

The Chief Minister said there was not only surplus power but the government also has land banks and so, to acquire land is not a problem in Bengal anymore. She also added that the workers in Bengal are excellent and extremely committed and hardworking. She also mentioned the fact that, unlike during the earlier Left Front Government, the Trinamool Congress Government has brought down the number of man-days lost due to strikes to zero.

Mamata Banerjee also said that the State Government is sending government officials to Oxford and Cambridge Universities and to Singapore to train them.

She pointed out to the gathering that the government cares for the poor and downtrodden, and that nearly 90 per cent of the population of the State have been benefitted by one scheme or the other implemented by the State Government.

Projecting her recent feat with Kanyashree Prakalpa bagging the United Nations Public Service Award for Asia Pacific, she said it was an extremely helpful scheme for the girl child and has won worldwide accolades.

Present at the summit were 18 representatives from different British companies, Oxford University and banks as well as prominent industrialists from Bengal.

 

লন্ডনে বাণিজ্য বৈঠক মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর

সোমবার এ বারের ব্রিটেন সফরে প্রথম বাণিজ্য সম্মেলন করলেন মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। ইউকে-ইন্ডিয়া বিজনেস কাউন্সিলের (ইউকেআইবিসি) প্রতিনিধিদের সঙ্গে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর বৈঠক হয়। উপস্থিত ছিলেন অর্থমন্ত্রী, মুখ্যসচিব-সহ মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে আসা বাণিজ্য প্রতিনিধিদলের সদস্যরা। ব্রিটেনের পক্ষে ছিল দিয়াজিও, গ্রিন ব্যাঙ্ক গ্রুপ, অক্সফোর্ড ইউনিভার্সিটি প্রেস, স্ট্যান্ডার্ড চার্টার্ড ব্যাঙ্ক-সহ নানা সংস্থার ১৮ জন প্রতিনিধি। ইউ কে আই বি সি-র চেয়ারম্যান ব্রিটেনের প্রাক্তন বাণিজ্যমন্ত্রী।

এই বৈঠক সেরেই মুখ্যমন্ত্রী যান লক্ষ্মী মিত্তলের বাড়িতে রাজ্যে লগ্নির সম্ভাবনা নিয়ে কথা বলতে। ভারতীয় সময় মধ্যরাত পেরিয়ে চলে বৈঠক।
২০১৫ সালে মমতা যখন এখানে এসেছিলেন, তখন ইউকেআইবিসি-র সঙ্গে ২২টি চুক্তি হয়েছিল। এর মধ্যে ১৭ টিই বাস্তবায়নের দিকে এগিয়েছে।

পশ্চিমবঙ্গে আরও একটি উৎকর্ষ কেন্দ্র তৈরির জন্য এই বৈঠকে অক্সফোর্ড ইউনিভার্সিটির সঙ্গে কথা হয়েছে। নিউটাউনকে গ্রিন সিটি তৈরি করতে গত বার আলোচনা হয়েছিল। ব্রিটিশ সংস্থার সঙ্গে হিডকোর সে ব্যাপারে মউ হয়েছে বলে খবর। শিল্পমন্ত্রীর বক্তব্য, ‘‘মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর নেতৃত্বে কতটা এগোনো গিয়েছে, এই সাফল্যের তালিকাই তার প্রমাণ। আগামী দিনে আরও এগোনো যাবে।’’

ব্রিটিশ শিল্পপতিদের রাজ্যে আহ্বান জানিয়ে পশ্চিমবঙ্গে শিল্প গড়ার সুবিধার দিকগুলি তুলে ধরেন মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, ভৌগোলিক দিক থেকে পশ্চিমবঙ্গের অবস্থান যেমন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, তেমনই এ রাজ্যে রয়েছে দক্ষ শ্রমিক অথচ যার মজুরি কম। শিল্পের জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় জমি সরকারের ল্যান্ড ব্যাঙ্কেই রয়েছে বলে দাবি করেন তিনি। জানিয়ে দেন, তাঁর আমলে শ্রমদিবস নষ্টের সংখ্যা শূন্যে এসে দাঁড়িয়েছে।ব্রিটেনের একটি শিল্প প্রতিনিধি দলকে আগামী জানুয়ারিতে রাজ্যের শিল্প সম্মেলনে আসার জন্য আমন্ত্রণ জানান মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।

It’s not only the inspiring thoughts of the English legacy that dominate the cultural bond between the two countries — India and England — but a representation of those ideas of similarity that is visible in the innumerable architectural structures that are present in Kolkata, set up during the British Raj and later.

Highlighting this similarity and describing London and Kolkata, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said: “London and Kolkata are essentially twin cities. We have cultural closeness and the same types of structures that we see in London are also to be found in Kolkata. Not only this, we also share a strong bonding in the field of education too.”

Addressing a gathering at the library conference hall here on Sunday afternoon, she recalled Sister Nivedita’s contribution to India and added: “She was dedicated to the cause of India.” She also spoke about Nivedita’s role in serving the poor and needy during the plague that broke out as an epidemic in Bagbazar where she used to live in 1899. “We have a college named after her. We have acquired the houses where she died in Darjeeling and where she started her school in 1898,” she said adding: “In daily life, we always remember Sri Ramakrishna, Maa Sharda, Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita before starting any work.”

She handed over two motifs of Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita to the Mayor. Earlier, the much-awaited Blue Plaque was unveiled at Sister Nivedita’s house at 21 High Street in Wimbledon where she used to live before she came to India.

The Chief Minister also garlanded a portrait of Sister Nivedita who used to live in this house before leaving for India in 1897. Swami Suhitanandaji, one of the vice-presidents of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Dinesh Patnaik, acting Indian High Commissioner to UK, Amit Mitra, state Finance minister, Malay De, state Chief Secretary and Lord Swraj Paul along with a host of industrialists were present at the event.

The Blue Plaque read “Sister Nivedita (Margaret Noble) Educationist and Campaigner for Indian Independence lived here.”

Mamata Banerjee walked down to the auditorium on Crompton Street. The portraits of Sri Ramakrishna, Maa Sharda Devi, Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita were kept beside the dais. The function started with an invocation paying homage to Sri Ramakrishna.

লন্ডনে ভগিনী নিবেদিতার বাড়ির ফলক উন্মোচন অনুষ্ঠান যেন এক অন্য ইতিহাসের সাক্ষী হয়ে রইল। যার অন্যতম কান্ডারি পশ্চিমবঙ্গের মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। আর হবে নাই বা কেন, ভগিনী নিবেদিতা যত না আয়ারল্যান্ডের, যত না ব্রিটেনের, তার থেকে অনেক বেশি তো এই বাংলার। তাই অনুষ্ঠান যতই অনাড়ম্বর হোক না কেন, এর আভিজাত্য ছিল অনেক বেশি। একদিকে নিবেদিতার সার্ধশতবর্ষ উপলক্ষে ‘স্মারক’ পত্রিকার উদ্বোধন করলেন মমতা, অন্যদিকে মঞ্চে দাঁড়িয়ে ডাক দিলেন ব্রিটেনের সঙ্গে নতুন সম্পর্ক গড়ে তোলার।

ইংল্যান্ডের মাটিতে প্রথমবারের জন্য বাংলার মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর হাত ধরেই সরকারিভাবে স্বীকৃতি পেল ভগিনী নিবেদিতার বাড়ি। তাঁর হাই স্ট্রিটের বাড়িতে যে ঐতিহ্যবাহী নীল ফলক স্থাপন করছে ইংলিশ হেরিটেজ, তা উন্মোচিত হল বাংলার মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর হাতে। ভারতীয় সময় রাত ১০টায় শুরু হওয়া অনুষ্ঠানে।

যেখানে রয়েছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী, সেখান থেকে অনুষ্ঠানস্থলের দূরত্ব সাড়ে ৮ মাইলের মতো। প্রায় ৫০ মিনিটের সফর। দুপুরেই মুখ্যমন্ত্রী উইম্বলডনে নিবেদিতার ২১, হাই স্ট্রিটের বাড়ি পৌঁছে যান। স্বামী দয়াত্মানন্দজির মন্ত্রোচ্চারণের পর স্বীকৃতির  প্রতীক ঐতিহ্যবাহী নীল ফলক উন্মোচিত হয় মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর হাত ধরেই। নিবেদিতার বাগবাজার এবং দার্জিলিংয়ের বাড়ি উদ্ধার এবং সুরক্ষায় বাংলার মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর উদ্যোগ প্রশংসা কুড়িয়েছে সব মহলেই।

বাকি অনুষ্ঠানটি সম্পন্ন হয় পার্শ্ববর্তী কম্পটন রোডের মার্টন আর্টস স্পেসে। যা উইম্বলডন লাইব্রেরি নামেই পরিচিত। মিনিট দশেকের এই দূরত্ব হেঁটেই যান মমতা। সেখানে মিউজিয়ামের মেয়র মার্সি স্কেটি, ইংলিশ হেরিটেজের অ্যানা এভিস, ব্রিটেনে নিযুক্ত ভারতের কার্যনির্বাহী হাইকমিশনার অ্যাম্বাসাডর, রামকৃষ্ণ মিশনের সহ-সভাপতির পর বক্তব্য রাখেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের বক্তৃতা শুরুর আগে ফের একবার ব্রিটেনের মঞ্চে প্রশংসিত হয় তাঁর সরকার। বিশ্বের দরবারে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর কন্যাশ্রীর সম্মানিত হওয়ার প্রসঙ্গে ফের একবার উন্নত হয় বাংলার শির।

১০ মিনিটের বক্তৃতার শুরুতেই মমতা ধন্যবাদ জানান এমন একটা অনুষ্ঠানে তাঁকে আমন্ত্রণ জানানোর জন্য। তাঁর কথায় উঠে আসে নিবেদিতার ভারতপ্রেম, মানবপ্রেমের প্রসঙ্গ। পরমহংস রামকৃষ্ণদেব, মা সারদা এবং স্বামী বিবেকানন্দকে ছাড়া যে বাংলা তথা ভারত অচল, সে কথা স্মরণ করিয়ে দেন মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। পাশাপাশি উল্লেখ করেন ভিক্টোরিয়া মেমোরিয়ালের মতো কলকাতার নানা প্রান্তে ছড়িয়ে থাকা হেরিটেজ বিল্ডিংয়ের কথা। তাঁর আহ্বান, ‘বাংলায় আসুন। নতুন করে সম্পর্ক গড়ে তুলি।’

বক্তৃতা শেষে উইম্বলডন হিস্ট্রি মিউজিয়ামেই মেয়রের হাতে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ এবং ভগিনী নিবেদিতার প্রতিকৃতি তুলে দেন।

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was the special guest at the installation ceremony of a Blue Plaque at the house of Sister Nivedita today.

The function on Sunday was organised by English Heritage. Swami Suhitananda, one of the vice-presidents of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, was also be present at the function.

In an extraordinary gesture, Queen Elizabeth II sent her warm wishes to those who were present at the function and described it as a most memorable event.

Margaret Elizabeth Noble, who later came to be known as Sister Nivedita, used to stay in the house in 1898 before she came to Kolkata. Swami Vivekananda had visited the house in 1895. Jagadish Chandra Bose and his wife Abala had stayed in the house for some time in 1900. After the event of the Blue plaque, a cultural function will be held in an auditorium situated very close to the site of installation of the plaque.

Mamata Banerjee reached United Kingdom on Saturday morning. She will meet businessmen in London and then in Scotland and discuss with them the advantages of investing in Bengal. She is also likely to meet NRIs from Bengal. State Finance minister Amit Mitra and Chief Secretary Malay De, too, will be present at the meetings with business professionals.

আজ লন্ডনে নিবেদিতার বাড়িতে স্মৃতিফলক উন্মোচনে উপস্থিত থাকবেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। তাঁর জন্মের সার্ধশতবর্ষ উদ্‌যাপন করা হচ্ছে। স্মৃতিফলকে লেখা থাকছে ‘‌ভগিনী নিবেদিতা, শিক্ষাব্রতী এবং ভারতের স্বাধীনতার প্রবক্তা’‌।

ইংলিশ হেরিটেজ সংস্থার উদ্যোগে এই ফলক বসানো হচ্ছে। এই অনুষ্ঠানে রাজ্যের মুখ্যমন্ত্রীকে বিশেষ আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হয়েছে। তাই তিনি লন্ডনে গিয়েছেন। এই অনুষ্ঠানে থাকবেন ভগিনী নিবেদিতার পরিবারের সদস্যরাও।

গতকাল সকালে লন্ডনে পৌঁছন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। সঙ্গে রয়েছেন অর্থমন্ত্রী অমিত মিত্র, বেশ কিছু শিল্পপতি সহ আরও কয়েকজন। মুখ্যমন্ত্রী এর আগে বাংলার স্বার্থে বেশ কয়েকবার বিদেশে গেছেন। তিনি যেখানেই গেছেন, সেখানেই বাংলায় বিনিয়োগের জন্য শিল্পপতিদের আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন।

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated the restored house of Sister Nivedita on October 23 to commemorate her sesquicentennial birth anniversary.

Sister Nivedita, then Margaret Elizabeth Noble, was born on October 28, 1867, at Dungannon in Ireland. It was at 16 A Bosepara Lane in Bagbazar that she opened her school for girls coming from middle-class families in November 1898 in the presence of Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda.

The century-old two-storeyed building was in a shambles when the State Government acquired it and handed it over to the Sarada Math. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) declared it as a Grade I heritage building. Sri Sarada Math proposes to set up a museum where many articles used by the Sister will be exhibited.

The building is a historical place. It was here that Sister Nivedita set up her school and took the trouble of visiting every household requesting parents to send their daughters there. Sister Nivedita stayed in the house and carried out massive social work when the Plague broke out in Bagbazar and its neighbourhood.

Swami Vivekananda and his followers often visited the house that became a centre of intellectual exercise and people like Rabindranath Tagore, Jagadish Chandra Bose and his wife Abala, Abanindranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, SK Ratcliffe, the then editor of The Statesman and his wife, Gopal Krishna Gokhale and Dinesh Chandra Sen were frequent visitors. The house played an important role in the socio-cultural movement in Bengal.

 

Highlights of the Chief Minister’s speech during the inauguration function:

  • I pay my respects to Sarada Math. I am grateful to them for the upkeep and maintenance of this place.
  • I had requested Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to help in the renovation of this place. They took over this house, and after completing the renovation, handed it over to Sarada Math.
  • Roy Villa in Darjeeling was also handed over to Ramakrishna Mission and declared a heritage site. Sister Nivedita had breathed her last there.
  • Sister Nivedita’s name is associated with Maa Sarada, Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna Paramhansa.
  • Sister Nivedita was a foreigner who inherited our culture. She was impressed by the ancient Indian and Hindu culture.
  • Her untimely death was a huge tragedy and brought a wave of gloom.
  • Sister Nivedita rushed to service during any emergency – from plague to any disease to any cause.
  • She dedicated her life to service. She embraced India as her mother.
  • We have set up Nivedita Girls’ College. She had laid stress on educating the girl child and we want to follow her vision.
  • A committee has been formed to commemorate Sister Nivedita’s 150th birth anniversary.
  • Icons like Sister Nivedita are immortal. They will forever live in our memories, through the work that they have done.

 

 

সংস্কারের পর আজ ভগিনী নিবেদিতার বাড়ির উদ্বোধন করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী

 

বাগবাজারে ভগিনী নিবেদিতার বাড়ির সংস্কারের কাজ শেষ; আজ সেই বাড়িটি উদ্বোধন করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। আগামী ২৮শে অক্টোবর ওনার জন্মসার্ধশতবর্ষ উপলক্ষে এই উদ্যোগ।

ভগিনী নিবেদিতার আসল নাম মার্গারেট এলিজাবেথ নোবেল। তাঁর জন্ম হয় ১৮৬৭ সালে ২৮শে অক্টোবর আয়ারল্যান্ডে।

স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ ও শ্রী সারদা মার উপস্থিতিতে তিনি বাগবাজার অঞ্চলে একটি স্কুল খোলেন ১৮৯৮ সালের নভেম্বর মাসে। ১৬ এ বোসপাড়া লেনে মধ্যবিত্ত পরিবারের মেয়েদের জন্য এই স্কুলটি খোলেন তিনি। মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নেতৃত্বাধীন রাজ্য সরকার এই বাড়িটি অধিগ্রহণ করে ও সারদা মঠের হাতে তুলে দেয়।

কলকাতা পুরসভা এই বাড়িকে গ্রেড ১ হেরিটেজ তকমা দেয়। এই বাড়িতে ভগিনী নিবেদিতার ব্যবহৃত বিভিন্ন জিনিসপত্র নিয়ে একটি সংগ্রহশালা গড়া হবে।

এই বাড়িটির ঐতিহাসিক গুরুত্ব অপিরিসীম। এখানে থেকে ভগিনী নিবেদিতা নানা সমাজসেবামূলক কাজ করেছিলেন। এখানে যাতায়াত ছিল সেই সময়ের নানা মনীষীদের। রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর, জগদীশ চন্দ্র বসু, অবনীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর, নন্দলাল বসু, গোপাল কৃষ্ণ গোখলে, দীনেশ চন্দ্র সেন মাঝেমাঝেই এখানে আসতেন।

 

তাঁর বক্তব্যের বিশেষ কিছু অংশঃ

  • আমি সারদা মঠের কাছে আমার শ্রদ্ধা ও প্রণাম নিবেদন করছি। কারণ তারা নিবেদিতার এই হেরিটেজ বাড়িটিকে রক্ষা করেছেন ও জনগণের কাছে চিরস্মরণীয় করে রাখার জন্য সচেষ্ট হয়েছেন।
  • আমি কলকাতার মেয়রকে নিয়ে এই বাড়িটিতে এসেছিলাম ও অনুরোধ করেছিলাম যাতে এই বাড়িটি হেরিটেজ হিসেবে রক্ষা করা যায়। এই বাড়িটি অধিগ্রহণ করে সারদা মঠের হাতে তুলে দেওয়া হয়েছিল।
  • রয় ভিলা – দার্জিলিঙের যে বাড়িতে ভগিনী নিবেদিতা শেষ নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন – সেই বাড়িটিকেও হেরিটেজ হিসেবে আমরা রক্ষা করেছি।
  • সিস্টার নিবেদিতার নামের সঙ্গে সারদা মা, স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ, রামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংসদেবের নাম ওতপ্রোত ভাবে জড়িয়ে আছে।
  • তিনি আয়ারল্যান্ড থেকে ছুটে এসে ভারতবর্ষকে নিজের জননী হিসেবে স্বীকার করেছিলেন।
  • যে কটা দিন ছিলেন, প্লেগ মহামারিতে থেকে শুরু করে আর্ত লোকেদের কাছে ছুটে গিয়েছেন।
  • সেবার মধ্যে দিয়ে তিনি নিজেকে গড়ে তুলেছিলেন। তিনি ভারতবর্ষকে ভালোবেসেছিলেন।
  • আমরা নিবেদিতা গার্লস কলেজ তৈরি করেছি হেস্টিংসে। নারীশিক্ষা, স্বদেশ চেতনা ও ভারতবর্ষকে ভালোবাসার তাঁর আদর্শ আমরা এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাব।
  • সিস্টার নিবেদিতার এটা সার্ধশতবর্ষ পালিত হচ্ছে। উচ্চশিক্ষা মন্ত্রীর নেতৃত্বে কমিটিও তৈরি হয়েছে।
  • সিস্টার নিবেদিতা চিরকালীন, সার্বজনীন, বিশ্বজনীন। এঁদের মৃত্যু হয় না, এঁরা ছিলেন, আছেন, থাকবেন। কর্মের মধ্যে দিয়ে বাঁচবেন।

The 150th birth anniversary of Sister Nivedita will be celebrated by the state government in a grand manner. The inaugural function was held at Sisir Mancha on Friday, where state Education minister Partha Chatterjee and president of Bagbazar Math Swami Nityamuktananda were present.

The state government has set up a committee, comprising dignitaries of Ramakrishna Math and Mission including general secretary Swami Suhitananda, assistant secretary Swami Suvirananda and Swami Suvakarananda for the celebrations.

It was Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who took special interest in acquiring and renovating the house of Sister Nivedita at 16 Bosepara Lane and hand it to Ramakrishna Sarada Math. The Chief Minister also acquired Roy Villa in Darjeeling, where Sister Nivedita died on October 13, 1911, and handed it over to Ramakrishna Mission.

A programme will be held at Bosepara Lane, where renovation of the building is being carried out in full swing. Noted personalities of the 19th century – from Tagore to Jagadish Chandra Bose, Aurobindo Ghosh to Gopal Krishna Gokhale – used to visit the house.

 

ভগিনী নিবেদিতার জন্ম সার্ধশতবর্ষ উদযাপনের সূচনা করল রাজ্য সরকার

আজ ভগিনী নিবেদিতার ১৫০ তম জন্ম শতবর্ষ উপলক্ষে শিশির মঞ্চে একটি অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করেছিল রাজ্য সরকার। অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন রাজ্যের শিক্ষা মন্ত্রী পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায় এবং বাগবাজার মঠের সভাপতি স্বামী নিত্যামুক্তানন্দ।

ভগিনী নিবেদিতার জন্ম সার্ধশতবর্ষ উদযাপনের জন্য রাজ্য সরকার একটি কমিটি গঠন করেছে। এই কমিটিতে আছেন রামকৃষ্ণ মঠ এবং মিশনের জেনারেল সেক্রেটারি স্বামী সুহিতানন্দ, সহ সম্পাদক স্বামী শুভিরানন্দ এবং স্বামী শুভাকরনন্দ মহাশয় সহ অন্যান্য প্রতিনিধিরা।

মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের উদ্যোগে ইতিমধ্যেই রাজ্য সরকার ভগিনী নিবেদিতার বোসপাড়া লেনের বাসস্থান সংস্কারের উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে। সেই বাড়িটি তুলে দেওয়া হয়েছে  রামকৃষ্ণ মিশন ও মঠকে। দার্জিলিঙের রায় ভিলা, যেখানে ভগিনী নিবেদিতা শেষ নিশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন, সেই বাড়িটিও তুলে দেওয়া হয় রামকৃষ্ণ মিশন ও মঠকে।

বোসপাড়া লেনে যেখানে ভবনের সংস্কারকাজ পুরোদমে চলছে সেখানেও একটি অনুষ্ঠান হবে।  উল্লেখ্য, ঊনবিংশ শতাব্দীর বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তিত্ব – রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর থেকে জগদীশ চন্দ্র বসু, অরবিন্দ ঘোষ গোপালকৃষ্ণ গোখলে – সকলেরই এখানে যাতায়াত ছিল।

West Bengal Government, led by Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee has been pro-active since 2011 in honouring the great visionary and icon Swami Vivekananda.

“His life, work and vision is our inspiration and we are committed and proud to carry forward his message of universal brotherhood, peace, unity and development of humanity,” wrote Mamata Banerjee on her Facebook page.

Some works by West Bengal government in preserving the legacy of Swami Vivekananda:

  • West Bengal government has given autonomy and special status to Ramakrishna and Sarada Mission educational institutions, which are associated with Swami Vivekananda’s ideology to impart education and foster character building.
  • “Vivek Tirtha”, a Centre for Human Excellence coming up as a replica of the famous Art Institute of Chicago is being set up on 5 acres of land in New Town given by our Government. Government has also allocated Rs.10 Crore to start work of this centre of international excellence.
  • Premises adjoining Swamiji’s ancestral house has been acquired and handed over to Ramakrishna Mission.
  • “Mayer Bari” in Baghbazar is also being befittingly renovated and our government has allocated Rs.30 Crore for rehabilitation of people around the premises suitably.
  • Ramakrishna Mission has renovated “Roy Villa” in Darjeeling associated with the memory of Sister Nivedita and we allocated Rs.2 Crore for this work. It has also been handed over to Ramakrishna Mission.
  • The government has already acquired Sister Nivedita’s one house at Baghbazar and duly handed over to Ramakrishna Sarada Mission and are considering giving it heritage status.
  • The famous shrine at Dakshineswar associated with the memory of Swami Vivekananda is being connected with a Sky Walk to facilitate easy movement of visitors.
  • “Yuva Bharati Krirangan”, Bidhannagar of international repute has been named after Vivekananda.
  • The Self Help and Self Employment Department runs a major self-help scheme for our youth in the name “Swami Vivekananda Swanirbhar Karmasansthan Prakalpa”.
  • This year “Vivek Chetana Utsav” commemorating his birth anniversary is being celebrated in a befitting manner across all Blocks, Sub-divisions, Districts, Municipalities, Municipal Corporations, State from 10th to 12th January, 2016.

West Bengal government on Friday offered financial assistance of Rs 5 crore to Ramakrishna Mission to promote value education.

Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee handed over a cheque to Swami Suhitanandaji on Friday and said it would be used for constructing the replica of the building at Chicago which had hosted the World Parliament on Religion where Swami Vivekananda delivered his historic address over a hundred years ago on this day.

She said her government was trying to promote the works of Swami Vivekananda and other great men as their teachings were immortal.

“It is a duty to support such organisation working on Ramakrishna and Vivekananda,” she said.

WB CM had handed over the building where Sister Nivedita had died at Darjeeling and helped in its restoration. She had also offered Rs.1.5 crore for publication of Vedas.

The state government had offered 5 acres at Rajarhat township in the fringes of the city for the institute.

The West Bengal Government is keen to formulate a uniform policy for self-financing private colleges in the State for better governance in those educational institutions. The State Higher Education Minister Partha Chatterjee today said the idea had received a nod in the state Cabinet meeting today. 

” A  Bill in this regard will soon be placed in the State Assembly. Such self-financing colleges run in their own style as they are not financed by the Government. But, a uniform policy is required for their governance and coordination among such colleges,” he said. 

The Minister said there were about 22 self-financed private colleges in the State, of which three were under Calcutta University. 

The state cabinet today named the Hastings College and a new Government College at Rajarhat after the names of Sister Nivedita and former President A P J Abdul Kalam respectively, the minister added.
