All India Trinamool Congress organised rallies and street corner meetings at various places in the State, as part of “mass protests” against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the “divisive” politics of the BJP. These protests were carried out on September 7 and 8.

Carrying posters and placards in several districts, Trinamool supporters shouted slogans against the BJP-led government and demanded immediate repeal of the NRC in Assam.

“Protest rallies were organised in various parts of the state yesterday and today. Our party workers have vowed not to allow NRC in Bengal. Locals, too, joined in,” AITC Secretary General Partha Chatterjee said.

“Party cadres have vowed that they can sacrifice their lives but would never allow division of Bengal,” senior party leader and minister Tapan Dasgupta said.

Trinamool Chairperson is also going to participate in a mega rally against NRC on September 12 in north Kolkata.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged jatra artistes to come forward and protest against demonetisation while inaugurating Jatra Utsav in Barasat. “Jatra artistes are also suffering, they have lost their happiness. I urge everyone to come forward and protest”, she said.

“Our MPs staged protests in Delhi for three days against demonetisation. It is important that people get to work “, she said. She raised the question of why the Centre did not ban only Rs 1000 notes. “Why did they cause so much suffering to people?” she asked.

Mamata Banerjee asked the jatra artistes whether they are getting same number of bookings for shows as before post-demonetisation and the crowd, in a chorus, said, “No”.

She said, micro and small-scale artisans who showcase their products in fairs have also been affected as many programmes have been cancelled. Bookings of shows for jatra festivals have also been cancelled causing serious inconveniences to the people involved in this sector.

বারাসাতে যাত্রা উৎসবের উদ্বোধন করতে গিয়ে বাংলার মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় নোট বাতিলের বিরুদ্ধে যাত্রা শিল্পীদের প্রতিবাদ করার আহ্বান জানালেন। “যাত্রা শিল্পীরাও নোট বাতিলের ফলে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত। আমি সকলকেই আহ্বান জানাচ্ছি এই নোট বাতিলের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ জানানোর”, তিনি বলেন।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, “আমাদের সাংসদরা দিল্লীতে তিন দিন নোট বাতিলের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ করেন। মানুষের জন্য কাজ করা খুব জরুরি।” তিনি প্রশ্ন তোলেন, কেন কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার শুধুমাত্র ১০০০ টাকার নোট বাতিল করল না, কেন তারা সমস্ত জনসাধারণকে এত কষ্টের মধ্যে ফেলল।

তিনি প্রশ্ন করেন, “যাত্রা শিল্পীরা কি নোট বাতিলের পর এখনও আগের মতই ডাক পাচ্ছেন?” উপস্থিত সকলে সমস্বরে জবাব দেয়, “না”।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, মাঝারি ও ক্ষুদ্র শিল্পীরা যারা বিভিন্ন মেলায় নিজেদের তৈরি জিনিসপত্র বিপনন করে থাকেন তারাও ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছেন। পাশাপাশি যাত্রার অনেক অনুষ্ঠান বাতিল হয়ে যাওয়ায় যাত্রা শিল্পীরাও চরম ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছেন।

Today was the second day of Trinamool’s countrywide protests against demonetisation and political vendetta.

Trinamool MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha held a sit-in demonstration at South Avenue for the second day. The dharna began with 2 minutes silence for the 120 people who lost their lives due to demonetisation. Several MPs – Saugata Roy, Kalyan Banerjee, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Sisir Adhikari, Sultan Ahmed – made short speeches highlighting the sufferings of people every hour.

A dharna was organised just three kilometres away from the office of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Bhubaneswar. Senior Trinamool Congress leaders including Secretary General of the party Partha Chatterjee, All India General Secretary, Subrata Bakshi, Chandrima Bhattacharya and Manish Gupta  attended the dharna.

Dharnas were also organised in front of CGO complex and RBI headquarters in Kolkata. They will continue even today.

Protests are being organised in Punjab, Kishanganj (Bihar), Manipur, Tripura, Assam, and Jharkhand against the note ban and the suffering that is being caused to the people.

 

নোট বাতিলের বিরুদ্ধে তৃণমূলের প্রতিবাদের আজ দ্বিতীয় দিন

কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের জনবিরোধী নোটবাতিলের সিদ্ধান্ত ও তার ফলে সাধারণ মানুষের ভোগান্তির বিরুদ্ধে  এবং কেন্দ্রের প্রতিহিংসামূলক রাজনীতির বিরুদ্ধে তৃণমূলের দেশব্যাপী প্রতিবাদী আন্দোলনের আজ  দ্বিতীয় দিন।

দিল্লির সাউথ এভিনিউতে তৃণমূলের লোকসভা ও রাজ্যসভার সাংসদরা ধর্ণা দেন। সকাল ১১টায় নোট বাতিলের ফলে যারা প্রাণ হারিয়েছেন তাদের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা জানিয়ে শুরু হয় ধর্ণা। এরপর প্রত্যেক ঘন্টায় বর্ষীয়ান সাংসদরা বক্তব্য রাখেন। বক্তব্য রাখেন সৌগত রায়, কল্যাণ ব্যানার্জি, কাকলি ঘোষ দস্তিদার, সুখেন্দু শেখর রায়, শিশির অধিকারী, সুলতান আহমেদ।

ওড়িশার ভুবনেশ্বরের সিবিআই অফিসের মাত্র তিন কিঃ মিঃ দুরে আজ ধর্ণা দেওয়া হয়। এই কর্মসূচিতে অংশ নেন তৃণমূলের মহাসচিব পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায়, সর্বভারতীয় সাধারন সম্পাদক সুব্রত বক্সী, চন্দ্রিমা ভট্টাচার্য, মনীশ গুপ্ত প্রমুখ।

ধর্ণা হয় কলকাতার সিজিও কমপ্লেক্স ও রিজার্ভ ব্যাংকের সামনেও। পাঞ্জাব, বিহারের কিষাণগঞ্জ, মনিপুর, ত্রিপুরা, আসাম ও ঝাড়খণ্ডেও চলবে প্রতিবাদ।

In a statement on Twitter, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the Trinamool Congress is organising nationwide protests against Narendra Modi’s “shameless flop-show” (implying the draconian policy of demonetisation).

She announced the staging of dharnas over the next three days, that is, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, in Bengal, Odisha (Bhubaneswar), Punjab, Bihar (Kishanganj), Manipur, Tripura, Assam, Jharkhand and Delhi.

Mamata Banerjee, through her statement, also demanded that “restrictions should be removed” on the withdrawal of cash from banks and ATMs because of the “hardships being faced by millions due to demonetisation”.

Today, about 35 Trinamool MPs have begun a peaceful protest, on South Avenue in New Delhi, against demonetisation and the resultant suffering caused to millions. It would continue till 6 pm.

টুইটারে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় জানান, “নরেন্দ্র মোদীর ‘নির্লজ্জ ফ্লপ শোয়ের’ (হঠকারী নোটবাতিলের সিদ্ধান্ত) বিরুদ্ধে দেশজুড়ে প্রতিবাদ করছে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস।

তিনি জানান, আজ থেকে আগামী বুধবার পর্যন্ত তিনদিন ব্যাপী বাংলা, ওড়িশা (ভুবনেশ্বর), পাঞ্জাব, বিহার (কিষাণগঞ্জ), মনিপুর, ত্রিপুরা, আসাম, ঝাড়খণ্ড ও দিল্লীতে ধর্ণা চলবে।

এদিন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী তার বক্তব্যে ব্যাঙ্ক ও এটিএম-এর মাধ্যমে টাকার লেনদেনের ক্ষেত্রে “বিধিনিষেধ বা ঊর্ধ্বসীমা” তুলে নেওয়ারও দাবি জানান।

এই প্রতিবাদে আজ দিল্লীর সাউথ অ্যাভিনিউতে একটি শান্তিপূর্ণ বিক্ষোভ দেখাচ্ছেন তৃণমূলের সাংসদরা। সন্ধ্যা ৬ টা পর্যন্ত চলবে এই ধর্ণা।

20 MPs and senior Ministers met Sudip Da from outside. We gave him the confidence that we are all together. We are fighting this Modi Govt and Amit Shah. We will continue out fight against Note Bandi. This is not the end. We will fight this till the finish. We will sit on a dharna at our Parliamentary Party Office in Delhi tomorrow.

Our leader Mamata Banerjee asked us to stand beside Sudip Da. We will not bow down our heads. Our movement cannot be stopped by politics of vendetta. We will launch series of protests from tomorrow in Bengal & other states.
This is a dark chapter in the history of Indian politics.

Trinamool Congress legislators staged a demonstration outside RBI office in BBD Bag over the ever-increasing ordeal of common people even after one month of demonetisation of high value notes.

The Trinamool MLAs, led by party secretary general Partha Chatterjee and senior leaders Firhad Hakim, Sovan Chatterjee and Sobhandeb Chatterjee, marched towards RBI building on BBD Bag. The MLAs held posters and placards highlighting the ordeal of people.

Partha Chatterjee said that one month had lapsed but no relief had been given to the people. Long queues are still seen in front of ATMs and banks and there was shortage of notes. “People are standing in the queues for hours to get their own money. More than 100 people have died and RBI is not informing about the exact amount of notes it has given in different banks in the state. This is most unfortunate. RBI should come out with a statement,” he said.

Trinamool Congress will hold meetings and rallies all over the state for the next three days to protest against demonetisation.

 

নোট বাতিল ইস্যুতে কলকাতায় রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্ক অভিযান তৃণমূলের

নোট বাতিলের প্রতিবাদে কলকাতার বুকে রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্কের সামনে বিক্ষোভ দেখিয়ে তৃণমূল সুর চড়াল।

বুধবার তৃণমূলের মন্ত্রী ও বিধায়কেরা বিধানসভা থেকে হেঁটে রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্কের সামনে গিয়ে প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদির বিরুদ্ধে বিক্ষোভ দেখান; অন্যদিকে, বাংলার সব ব্লকে নোটবন্দীর প্রতিবাদে মিটিং–‌মিছিল করেন তৃণমূলের নেতার ও কর্মীরা। তাঁরা স্লোগান তোলেন, মোদি হঠাও, দেশ বাঁচাও। নোট বাতিলের সিদ্ধান্ত প্রত্যাহার করতে হবে।

বুধবার সকালে বিধানসভায় তৃণমূলের পরিষদীয় দল ঠিক করে বিধানসভা থেকে হেঁটে বিধায়কেরা বিক্ষোভ দেখাতে যাবেন রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্কের সামনে। মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নির্দেশেই এদিনের এই কর্মসূচি নেওয়া হয়। বিধায়কেরা বিধানসভা থেকে হেঁটে যান রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্কের সামনে। ব্যাঙ্কের সামনে একটি ছোট লরিও রাখা হয়। সেখান থেকে মাইক্রোফোনে বক্তব্য পেশ করেন পার্থ চ্যাটার্জি, শোভনদেব চ্যাটার্জি, ফিরহাদ হাকিম, অরূপ বিশ্বাস, শোভন চ্যাটার্জি, সুব্রত বক্সি।

বিক্ষোভে উপস্থিত ছিলেন মন্ত্রী পূর্ণেন্দু বসু, শশী পাঁজা, অসীমা পাত্র, বিধায়ক সুজিত বসু, নির্মল ঘোষ, তাপস রায়, নার্গিস বেগম, গুলশান মল্লিক, মালা সাহা, বৈশালী ডালমিয়া–‌সহ অনেকে। স্লোগান দেওয়া হয়।

পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায় বলেন, বৃহস্পতিবারও বেলা সাড়ে ১২টা নাগাদ রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্কের সামনে একইভাবে বিক্ষোভ দেখানো হবে। তৃণমূল ভবনে খবর এসেছে, বিভিন্ন জেলায় এদিনের কর্মসূচি সফল হয়েছে। বৃহস্পতিবারও এই কর্মসূচি পালন করা হবে। চলবে শুক্রবার পর্যন্ত।‌

Trinamool Congress organised protest rallies to mark Dikkar Diwas throughout the State to counter the violence being caused by the Left parties.

On Thursday, the Dikkhar Diwas was organised at block level. Another rally will be organised in Kolkata on September 4, led by Sovan Chatterjee.

AITC Secretary General Partha Chatterjee, while informing about the Dikkar Diwas programme on Wednesday evening said that the people of Bengal do not Bandhs or political violence. CPI(I)M is taking on to such violence to keep their existence alive.

To mark protest against this Trinamool Congress has taken up the programme of Dikkar Diwas and Trinamool activists will carry black flags as a mark of protest, he said.

Incidentally, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Chairperson Ms Mamata Banerjee  while slamming the bandh culture, said that those who destroyed the infrastructure and economy of the State for 34 years have to right to terrorise people with culture of violence and hooliganism.

Trinamool MPs today protested at the entrance of Parliament House against the vindictive politics of the BJP. MPs carried placards displaying slogans against the use of the CBI by the Government to target TMC leaders.

Even inside the House, the TMC MPs demanded suspension of Question Hour to take up discussion on the political vendetta by the BJP. In the Rajya Sabha, Trinamool MPs rushed to the well.

What Trinamool MPs said:

Trinamool MP and Chief Whip in the Rajya Sabha, Derek O’Brien, said, “The president of the BJP is writing scripts for the CBI. The CBI is being used for political vendetta.”

Sukhendu Sekhar Ray said, “The CBI is following the directions of the party functionaries of the BJP. The CBI is reporting to the PMO. In February this year, a complaint had been made against a Delhi-based company for cheating people of Rs 47,000 crore. Not a single arrest has been made.”

In the Lok Sabha, Saugata Roy said, “The CBI is a premier investigation agency of the country, but in the past, when the ruling party was in the Opposition, they used to call the CBI – Congress Bureau of Investigation. The Supreme Court has called the CBI a ‘caged parrot’. The former director of the CBI, Ranjit Sinha, was asked to recuse from the investigation of the 2G scam. Now, the CBI, on the instigation of those in power, the president of the ruling party, has launched an assault on the West Bengal Government. Now they are trying to subjugate the State Government by arresting the leader of the TMC. We want to state that the CBI has to be removed from the control of the Prime Minister. It is being used politically.”

The Sundarbans is the largest Mangrove forest ecosystem in the world. Annually 2.4 billion tonnes of sediments is transported by the major rivers of Bangladesh. Silt deposition in the northern part of the forest poses a threat to the existence and vigorous growth of mangrove vegetation. Salinity levels have increased in the Sundarbans since the Hathabhanga, Kobadak and other rivers bringing fresh water from the Ganges to the South have silted up excessively thereby losing their connection with the Ganges. The Sunderbans is on the verge of disintegrating and disappearing. I would urge the Minister concerned to take remedial steps to protect the Sundarbans and especially preserve the mangroves.
