The State Cabinet, on December 19, took a slew of decisions to further strengthen policing in Bengal.

Five investigation centres, including one in Kolkata, will be set up for crimes against women. The decision has been taken for better policing that will ensure safety and security of women. As many as 94 posts will be created for the five investigation centres.

Three more police stations will be set up. In South 24 Parganas district, Narendrapur police station will be set up by bifurcating the jurisdiction of Sonarpur police station. In Nadia district, Palashipara police station will be set up by reducing the jurisdiction of Tehatta police station. In Purulia district, Tamna police station will be set up by bifurcating the jurisdictions of Purulia Mafatsal and Kenda police stations.

Consequently posts have been created for the new police stations – 52 for Narendrapur, 37 for Palashipara and 42 for Tamna.

 

নরেন্দ্রপুর সহ রাজ্যে নতুন ৩ থানা, ৫টি মহিলা তদন্তকেন্দ্র

রাজ্যের আইনশৃঙ্খলাকে আরও উন্নত মানে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য মন্ত্রীসভার বৈঠকে ৩টি নতুন থানা তৈরীর সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে। দক্ষিণ ২৪ পরগনায় নরেন্দ্রপুর থানা, নদীয়ায় পলাশি পাড়া থানা, পুরুলিয়ায় তামনা থানা তৈরী করা হবে।

প্রসঙ্গত,  সোনারপুর থানার এলাকা ১১২.৫ বর্গ কিলোমিটার হওয়ায় গত বছর দক্ষিণ ২৪পরগনার প্রশাসনিক বৈঠকেই মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় ঘোষণা করেছিলেন, সোনারপুর থানাটিকে ভেঙে দুটি থানা করা হবে। তাই, সোনারপুর থানা ভেঙে নরেন্দ্রপুর থানা তৈরী করা হচ্ছে।

অন্যদিকে নদীয়ার তেহট্ট থানাকে ভেঙে তৈরী করা হচ্ছে পলাশি পাড়া থানা ও পুরুলিয়ার কেন্দা থানা ভেঙে তৈরী হচ্ছে তামনা থানা।

পাশাপাশি মহিলাদের ওপর অপরাধ কমাতে ৫টি মহিলা তদন্ত কেন্দ্র তৈরির সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে।

নরেন্দ্রপুর থানার জন্য ৫২টি, পলাশি পাড়া থানার জন্য ৩৭টি, তামনা থানার জন্য ৪২টি ও নতুন পাঁচটি মহিলা তদন্তকেন্দ্রের জন্য ৯৪টি নতুন পদ খালি হল।

The Bengal Government will soon upgrade 52 sub-inspector-based police stations, technically known as officer-in-charge-based (OC-based) police stations, to inspector-in-charge-based (IC-based) police stations.

Over the last six years, the  Government has vastly improved the policing system of the state, from creating more police stations and, for the first time, women police stations to creating police commissionerates for ease of administration. The police force also conducts the Sukanya self-defence course for school girls.

This upgrading of police stations from OC-based to IC-based will improve the quality of response to the different policing requirements of a police station area.

Of the 52 police stations, the South Bengal Zone will have 21, the North Bengal Zone 15, and the Western Zone will have another 15, depending on population density.

Nine of these police stations will be based in South 24 Parganas district that has recently been split into three police districts for the sake of better administration.

Some of the police stations listed for upgradation cover areas of more than 500 square kilometres (sq km). For example, Basanti in South 24 Parganas covers 651 sq km, Rajganj and Malbazar in Jalpaiguri cover 614.82 sq km and 548.86 sq km respectively, while Gazole in Malda covers 513.37 sq km.

৫২টি অফিসার ইন চার্জ থানা রূপান্তরিত হচ্ছে ইন্সপেক্টর ইন চার্জ থানা’য়

মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় পরিচালিত রাজ্য সরকার খুব শীঘ্রই ৫২টি অফিসার ইন চার্জ থানাকে রূপান্তরিত করতে চলেছে ইন্সপেক্টর ইন চার্জ থানা’য়। ইন্সপেক্টর জেনারেল অফ পুলিশ স্বরাষ্ট্র ও পাহাড় বিষয়ক দপ্তরকে এই প্রস্তাব দেন।

নবান্নে এক পুলিশ আধিকারিক বলেন, এর মাধ্যমে পরিষেবার মানের অনেক উন্নতি হবে। এই থানা গুলোর ন’টি দক্ষিণ ২৪পরগণায় হবে, যে জেলাকে ভালো প্রশাসনের জন্য তিনটি পুলিশ জেলায় ভাগ করা হয়েছে।

দক্ষিণ বঙ্গে দক্ষিণ ২৪ পরগনা, উত্তর ২৪ পরগনা, মুর্শিদাবাদ, হাওড়া (গ্রামীণ) ও নদীয়া জেলায় ২১টি পুলিশ স্টেশন আছে। উত্তর বঙ্গে জলপাইগুড়ি, উত্তর দিনাজপুর, দক্ষিণ দিনাজপুর, মালদা জেলায় হচ্ছে ১৫টি পুলিশ স্টেশন। পশ্চিম ভাগে আছে পুরুলিয়া, পূর্ব মেদিনীপুর, বাঁকুড়া ও পূর্ব বর্ধমান জেলা, এখানে ১৫টি থানা রূপান্তরিত হবে।

উপরোক্ত কয়েকটি থানাকে ৫০০ বর্গ কিঃমিঃ অঞ্চল দেখাশোনা করতে হয়। দক্ষিণ ২৪পরগণার বাসন্তি থানাকে ৬৫১ বর্গ কিঃমিঃ নজর রাখতে হয়। জলপাইগুড়ির রাজগঞ্জ ও মালবাজার থানা ও মালদা’র গাজল থানাকে যথাক্রমে ৬১৪.৮২ বর্গ কিঃমিঃ, ৫৪৮.৮৬ বর্গ ও ৫১৩.৩৭ বর্গ কিঃমিঃ অঞ্চল নজর রাখতে হয়।

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Friday lauded the Kolkata Police for their “good performance” saying the force was carrying out their duties quite diligently.

Mamata Banerjee, also the Police Minister, was speaking at the Investiture Ceremony of the Kolkata Police held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium this evening.

She said earlier the forces’ job was limited to arresting, which nowadays has expanded beyond many things starting from managing crowds during the Durga Pujas to being present at sporting events and entertainment programmes, besides looking after regular law and order of the city.

“With changing time and lifestyle, crime has also changed its character adding to the duties of the police personnel. They are doing a very good job and we must give them their proper recognition,” she said.

WB CM inaugurated the new Santiniketan Police Station in Birbhum district at the programme and said in the last four years of her government in the state, 91 new police stations have been set up out of which 21 came up in the Kolkata Police limits.

“We have set up 30 women police stations and ten more have been sanctioned today… So there will be 40 women police stations. We have set up eight coastal police stations and five police stations for cyber crime. We have also set up 88 fast track courts, including 45 courts for women and 19 human rights court,” the Chief Minister said.

WB CM Ms Mamata Banerjee today gave away service awards at the 12th Investiture Ceremony of West Bengal Police, held at Nazrul Mancha. She appreciated the hard work that is done by the police in ensuring peace and stressed on the importance of ‘communicative policing’.

Hooghly has been honoured with Best District in the state for performance of the State Police.

“Those who perform well must be rewarded. Police takes care of the law and order. We must take care of their well-being. We have started Pratyasha scheme, started housing scheme for police force. Constables who serve for 15 years can now be transferred to their home districts,” she said.

The State Government has created 57 new police stations, 20 new women’s police stations, 14 postal police stations and 5 cyber police stations and almost 400 new sub inspectors. About 40,000 constables and 1.3 lakh civic police  have been recruited.

West Bengal Police has also been involved in organising sports events for the youth in Jangalmahal, Darjeeling and Sunderbans.

The Chief Minister urged the police to use less force in solving any crisis. “In today’s world, policing has to be done with common sense more than lathis and gas,” she said.

She also had a word of caution to the state police when she said, “Some people are trying to incite riots. Police’s work has become even more crucial.”

She assured the policemen for full co-operation from her government and urged them to carry the good work. “Police work round the clock, everyday of the year. This is exemplary. Without their support, it is not possible for servicemen to work. Some people only criticize. They do not see the humane side of the police,” she added.
