“It is incumbent upon the Government of India to constitute a high-powered committee in public interest and unearth the true nature and contents of the Netaji files, and also to ascertain the names of the persons who failed in the safekeeping of the files,” he added.

It is also reported that the Central government led by the Congress party filed a review petition in the Delhi High Court to avoid the publication of the book ‘A History of the Indian National Army, 1942-45’, the draft of which was prepared by the Historical Division of the Defence Ministry of the Government in 1949-50.

All India Trinamool Congress also urges upon the Central Government to publish the book without further delay.

Truth about Netaji’s last days must come out: WB CM

While attending a special programme organised by the Netaji Research Bureau to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s “Great Escape” (Maha Nishkraman), West Bengal Chief Minister reiterated her demand that the truth about last days of Netaji must come out.

The Netaji Mystery

Calling Netaji “Leader of the Nation”, WB CM said it is a matter of national shame that we know the date of birth of Netaji but not the date of his death. She wondered if Netaji died in 1945 why did snooping on Bose family continue after independence. She also said some light must be shed on whether he visited Russia after his disappearance.

WB CM also iterated the demand of DNA test on the ashes at Renkoji temple. She said Netaji was a popular figure globally and the next generation must know the full truth about him.

The Great Escape

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated an exhibition to mark 75 years of Netaji’s ‘Great Escape’ at Netaji Bhavan, the residence from where in 1941 he had escaped house confinement.

She also unveiled a marble plaque in front of the entrance of Netaji Bhavan to commemorate the route Netaji’s nephew Sisir Bose had taken to drive him out.

We deserve Central funds as we have performed well: WB CM at Delhi

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Union Finance Minister on Tuesday to discuss disbursement of central funds to the state.

She has been consistently taking up the issue of disbursement of central funds to the State on each of her visits in Delhi.

On Tuesday, the West Bengal Chief Minister said she took up the issue of funds for flood relief as the Centre has given West Bengal nothing so far on this account.

She also pointed out to the finance minister that no funds from the Centre have reached the state on account of development in the backward regions even while the state is supposed to get Rs 3,000 crore for BRGF.

The West Bengal Chief Minister said the Central Government had withdrawn 39 projects from the State and in case of 54 projects the funding pattern had changed. While earlier the Centre would have provided for 90% of the funds and states 10 %, now there will be a 60-40 sharing ratio, she explained.

On the day, the West Bengal Chief Minister also visited Rashtrapati Bhavan and handed over the digitised declassified Netaji Files.

Digitisation of files is one such step taken by us. We hope the stand taken by our government regarding declassification of files will be adopted by other governments also.”

A total of 401 files have been declassified today and in future the government plans to declassify files of post-independence era, WB CM said.

“In this age of internet and social media, we believe in transparency. That is why we declassified files. People must know the truth,” she added.

“We have declassified 64 Netaji files. The immense contribution of Netaji has not been evaluated properly. We feel that the Centre should follow us and declassify the files,” the Chief Minister said.

Centre must declassify files on Netaji: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee today demanded that the Central government must declassify all the files in its possession concerning Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. She was addressing the press after going through the 64 declassified files at Kolkata Police Museum.

After her announcement on September 11, 2015 that all files concerning Netaji in the possession of West Bengal government will be declassified in a week, CDs of the digitised files were handed over today to the family members of Netaji and the press. The files will be open for public viewing from Monday.

WB CM said, “We all know the birth date of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. We do not know about his death. We want the truth to come out.”

Maintaining that she has “fulfilled our responsibility to the people”, she urged the Centre to declassify the files in their possession. “We have made the beginning. People must know about the final days of Netaji. He must get his due recognition,” she said.

“If the Centre has nothing to hide, why is it not declassifying the files? We want to know the truth. We believe in transparency and accountability,” the CM added.

WB CM also assured that law and order situation, if any, will be taken care of by the government. She termed it a mere excuse and stressed that Centre must declassify Netaji files “for the sake of the nation”.

She added that the Centre can solve bilateral issues if it wants. “Why would relations with other countries be spoiled if we honour our great icons who fought for our freedom?” she wondered.
