On November 20, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is going to lay the foundation stone of a museum inside the Assembly premises. The museum will depict the rich history of the Legislative Assembly, and through it, the immense contribution of Bengal to the freedom struggle of the country.

It will be housed inside a five-storied building, which will have, among other facilities, a state-of-the-art auditorium.

The history of the Bengal Legislature can be traced back to January 18, 1862 when, under the Indian Councils Act of 1861, a twelve-member Legislative Council for Bengal Presidency was established by the Governor-General of British India, with the Lt Governor of Bengal and some nominated members.

Under the provisions of the Government of India Act 1935, the Bengal Provincial Legislature, as it was named later, was made bicameral – housing the Legislative Council and the Legislative Assembly.

The Legislative Council was abolished in 1969 through the enactment of the West Bengal Legislative Council (Abolition) Act.

At present, the Legislative Assembly has 295 members, which includes 294 members directly elected from single-seat constituencies and one nominated from the Anglo-Indian community. Its term is five years, unless sooner dissolved.

রাজ্য বিধানসভায় তৈরী হচ্ছে একটি সংগ্রহশালা

পশ্চিমবঙ্গ বিধানসভায় এবার তৈরী হবে একটি সংগ্রহশালা। ২০শে নভেম্বর বিধানসভার শীতকালীন অধিবেশন শুরু হতে চলেছে। মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় সেদিনই শিলন্যাস করবেন।

রাজ্য বিধানসভার সোনালী ইতিহাসের সরণি হয়ে উঠবে এই সংগ্রহশালা। দেশের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ বিধানসভার যে ভূমিকা ছিল তাও ধরা থাকবে এই সংগ্রহশালায়।

একটি পাঁচতলা ভবনে তৈরী হবে এই সংগ্রহশালাটি। এখানে থাকবে একটি প্রেক্ষাগৃহও।

রাজ্যের বিধানসভার সূচনা হয় ১৮৬২ সালের ১৮ই জানুয়ারী। ইন্ডিয়ান কাউন্সিল অ্যাক্ট ১৮৬১ অনুসারে ব্রিটিশ ভারতের গভর্নর জেনারেল, লেফট্যানেন্ট গভর্নর অফ বেঙ্গল ও কিছু মনোনীত সদস্যদের নিয়ে একটি ১২ সদস্যের বিধানপরিষদ গঠন করা হয়।

গভর্মেন্ট অফ ইন্ডিয়া অ্যাক্ট ১৯৩৫ অনুসারে বেঙ্গল প্রভিন্সিয়াল লেজিসলেচারকে দ্বিকাক্ষিক করা হয় (বিধানসভা ও বিধানপরিষদ)। ১৯৬৯ সালে অবশ্য রাজ্যের বিধানপরিষদকে তুলে দেওয়া হয় ওয়েস্ট বেঙ্গল লেজিসলেটিভ (অ্যাবলিশন) অ্যাক্টের মাধ্যমে।

এই মুহূর্তে বিধানসভার সদস্য সংখ্যা ২৯৫ (২৯৪ জন নির্বাচিত এবং ১ জন মনোনীত সদস্য থাকেন আংলো ইন্ডিয়ান সম্প্রদায় থেকে)। বিধানসভার মেয়াদ ৫ বছর।

The office of the Directorate of Textiles (Sericulture) of the Bengal Government on Ganesh Chandra Avenue in Kolkata contains a unique collection of sericulture-related artefacts, many of them priceless, comprising the Sericulture Museum. Now plans are afoot to completely renovate the museum and make it a tourist attraction.

Among the priceless artefacts are about 150-year-old silk dresses, rare bamboo articles, beautiful showpieces made of shells, beautiful hand-woven sarees, some of which even have workings in gold.

The museum contains the first Durga idol based on a theme. It also contains various archaeological objects and other stuff.

The State Agriculture Department is doing the renovation. Besides tourists, this treasure trove is also expected to benefit students of history.

 

 

নতুন করে সাজছে সেরিকালচার মিউজিয়াম

কলকাতার গণেশচন্দ্র অ্যাভিনিউয়ের রেশম চাষের দপ্তরে রয়েছে এক আশ্চর্য সংগ্রহশালা। এই মিউজিয়ামকে নতুন করে জনগণের জন্য সাজিয়ে তুলবে রাজ্য সরকার।

এই সংগ্রহশালায় রয়েছে কমপক্ষে ১৫০ বছর আগের বাংলার রেশম বস্ত্র, যার খ্যাতি রয়েছে বিশ্বজোড়া। এছাড়াও রয়েছে বিরল বাঁশের শৌখিন দ্রব্য, সুদৃশ্য শাঁখের তৈরী শোপিস, নিপুণ হস্তশিল্পের ছোঁয়ায় নানা রকমের শাড়ি (যার কোনটার মধ্যে রয়েছে সোনার কাজ করা)।

কলকাতার প্রথম থিমের দুর্গা মূরতিটিও রয়েছে এই সংগ্রহশালায়। চোখ ধাঁধানো সম্ভার সংরক্ষিত রয়েছে কাঁচের বাক্সয় এছাড়া রয়েছে দুর্লভ প্রত্নতত্ত্ব দ্রব্য।

রাজ্য কৃষি দপ্তর এই সংগ্রহশালাটি প্রকাশ্যে আনার কাজ ইতিমধ্যেই শুরু করেছে। এই সংগ্রহশালা জনগণের জন্য খুলে দেওয়া হলে সুবিধা হবে অনেক ইতিহাসের ছাত্রছাত্রীদের।

Sangraha, a collection of handicrafts curated from award-winning Durga Puja pandals last year was inaugurated at Newtown’s Eco Park. Located at Visitors’ Plaza in Gate 4 of Eco Park, this was opened to public by Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee yesterday.

The Chief Minister had also initiated the Biswa Bangla Sharod Samman in 2014 to honour the best Durga Pujas not just in Bengal but across the world. She also started a grand ‘Bisarjan procession’ featuring award-winning Durga Puja committees at Red Road last year.

The CM has always maintained that the artwork of the Durga Puja pandals warranted preservation and had asked HIDCO to set up a museum of sorts at Newtown. Thus was born ‘Sangraha’.

 

সেরা দুর্গাপুজো প্যান্ডেলগুলির হস্তশিল্প নিয়ে তৈরী হল ‘সংগ্রহ’

গত বছরের সেরা দুর্গাপুজো প্যান্ডেলগুলির হস্তশিল্প নিয়ে তৈরী হল একটি সংগ্রহশালা। নিউটাউনে ইকোপার্কের ৪ নং গেটের কাছে গতকাল এই সংগ্রহশালাটির উদ্বোধন করা হয়।

উল্লেখ্য, ২০১৪ সাল থেকে বিশ্ব বাংলা শারদ সম্মান পুরস্কার দেওয়া শুরু করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। গত বছর রেড রোডে প্রথমবার ‘বিসর্জন শোভাযাত্রা’র আয়োজন করা হয় মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর উদ্যোগে।

সেরা দুর্গাপুজো প্যান্ডেলগুলির হস্তশিল্প সংরক্ষণ করার জন্য হিডকোকে নিউটাউনে একটি মিউজিয়াম তৈরীর কথা বলেছিলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। সেইজন্যই তৈরী হল ‘সংগ্রহ’।

The West Bengal government dedicated a museum to showcase state’s rich art of ‘kantha’ (embroidery) and puppetry, besides reflecting upon its tribal heritage by allocating a section on ‘ethnography.’

Housed at the Cultural Research Institute (CRI) complex in Kankurgachi area, a combined museum with three sections were launched yesterday by state Backward Classes Welfare Minister Upendra Nath Biswas.

The puppet section displays work on relevant social themes by about 20 contemporary puppeteers, belonging to backward class, from three districts – Nadia, West Midnapore and South 24 Parganas.

30 contemporary artisans from Birbhum district used century-old design patterns to showcase their work of art at ‘kantha’ (embroidery design) section of the museum.

The CRI ethnographic museum has been revived by introducing enhanced decoration techniques.

This museum has put on display nearly 500 composite types of ethnographic specimens to offer a panoramic view of the state’s tribal lifestyle. Most of them are bio-degradable thus needing more attention and specialised care.

The minister also inaugurated a three-day workshop on ‘Arts of Banga: An Ethnological Heritage Re-Appraisal 2015’ on puppetry, ‘kantha’ and woodwork.

A book titled ‘Banger Kantha’ (‘kanthas’ of Bengal) – highlighting the rich heritage of ‘kantha’ designs in the state was launched.

The book is a pictorial depiction of many beautiful embroidery works of Bengal over the ages.: An Ethnological Heritage Re-Appraisal 2015′ on puppetry, ‘kantha’ and woodwork.

A book titled ‘Banger Kantha’ (‘kanthas’ of Bengal) – highlighting the rich heritage of ‘kantha’ designs in the state was launched.

The book is a pictorial depiction of many beautiful embroidery works of Bengal over the ages.
