Bauls, the mystic minstrels of Bengal, will now have an academy at Kenduli in Birbhum. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today laid the foundation stone of the upcoming Baul academy at the onset of the Joydeb Mela.

The academy will be named after Joydeb, the 13th-century poet who penned ‘Geet Govinda’ from his ancestral home at Kenduli.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said: “A visit to Birbhum is incomplete without meeting the Bauls and listening to them play the ektara. Baul songs help in shaping our lives. With just an ektara they create such soulful music.”

“We have to develop the Baul Academy into a world-class exhibition centre where people from across the world will come,” she added.

The Chief Minister also said, “We have started Lok Prasar Prakalpa for our folk artistes. 80,000 artistes have been registered under the scheme. We request local clubs to give opportunity to local artistes to perform.”

কেন্দুলিতে ‘বাউল ও লোক উ९সবের‘ সূচনা করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী

আজ বাউল ও লোক উ९সব ২০১৭ র উদ্বোধন করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। একইসঙ্গে জয়দেব মেলা থেকে বাউল অ্যাকাডেমির শিলান্যাস করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।

জুন মাসে এই অ্যাকাডেমি তৈরির সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়ার পর কাজ শুরু হয়ে গেছে। অ্যাকাডেমির নামকরণ হবে ত্রয়োদশ শতকের কবি জয়দেবের নামে।

অজয় নদীর তীরে কেন্দুলিতে জয়দেবের মন্দিরে প্রতি বছরই এই মেলার আয়োজন করা হয়, প্রতি বছর বাউলরা এখানে মিলিত হয়ে নানান অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করে।

বাউল ও ফকিরদের প্রতি সম্মান জানিয়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী প্রতি বছর এই মেলায় অংশগ্রহণ করেন। সমগ্র রাজ্যে এই মেলা খুব জনপ্রিয়। রাজ্যের সব জায়গা থেকে বাউলরা আসেন এই মেলার অনুষ্ঠানে অংশগ্রহণ করতে।

 

তাঁর বক্তব্যের কিছু বিষয়ঃ 

  • এটা পৌষ মাস। নতুন ধান ঘরে তোলার সময়
  • বছরের এই সময় পিঠে উ९সব, পায়েস উ९সব, বাউল উ९সব হয় সারা বাংলা জুড়ে
  • নবান্ন থেকে হোলি, ক্রিসমাস থেকে দুর্গা পুজো সব উ९সব বাংলায় পালিত হয়
  • বাউলদের একতারার গান না শুনলে, তাদের সঙ্গে দেখা না করলে বীরভূম সফর সম্পূর্ণ হয় না
  • আজ আমরা বাউল অ্যাকাডেমির শিলান্যাস করলাম
  • বাউল গান আমাদের মাটির গান। শুধুমাত্র একতারার মাধ্যমে তারা এত সুন্দর সুর সৃষ্টি করে
  • বাউল অ্যাকাডেমিকে বিশ্বমানের প্রদর্শনী কেন্দ্র হিসেবে গড়ে তুলতে হবে যেখানে সারা বিশ্বের মানুষ আসতে পারবেন
  • বীরভূমে অনেক আকর্ষণীয় পর্যটন স্থান রয়েছে। বীরভূমের জঙ্গলে আমরা ইকো-ট্যুরিজম প্রকল্প শুরু করব
  • বীরভূমে বিশ্ব ভারতী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় তৈরি করেছিলেন রবীন্দ্রনাথ। ওই আদলে আমরা বিশ্ব বাংলা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় তৈরি করব
  • লোক শিল্পীদের জন্য আমরা লোক প্রসার প্রকল্প শুরু করেছি। ৮০০০০ লোক শিল্পী এই প্রকল্পের আওতায় আছেন
  • আমি লোকাল ক্লাবগুলিকে অনুরোধ করেছি লোকাল শিল্পীদের পারফর্ম করার সুযোগ দেওয়ার জন্য

Biswa Bangla Lok Sanskriti Utsav for promoting folk artists was inaugurated today by West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee. The festival will continue till 1 January. A special floating stage has been set up at Lal Dighi near Writers’ Buildings for the event.

Two venues have been selected for holding the festival, namely Princep Ghat (4 PM – 8 PM daily) and Lal Dighi (3 PM – 6 PM daily).

Lok Prasar Prakalpa

Under the Lok Prasar scheme, folk artists are enrolled by the government, following which they perform at government programmes for publicising development works.

Folk artists receive a retainership fee of Rs 1,000, and in addition an opportunity for four performances, with Rs 1,000 paid for each. This means there is provision for a folk artist to receive at least Rs 5,000 a month.

Some popular folk dances of Bengal are Chhau, Natua, Raibeshi, Brita, Gambhira, Lathi, Santhal and Tusu, and there are around 50,000 enrolled folk artists.

Highlights of WB CM’s speech:

  • I welcome all the folk artists who have come here today from across the State and other countries.
  • Folk artists are our pride but have been neglected in the past.
  • We have registered 50000 folk artists under Lok Prasar Prakalpa. I am proud we are using folk artists for govt advertisements.
  • We are giving financial stipends to folk artists every month and they are performing at our functions.
  • The folk culture and heritage of Bengal was slowly dying but we are taking initiatives to revive them.
  • From jatra to handloom, we are helping revive the Bengali tradition and culture.
  • This year we have developed a new concept of setting up a floating stage on Lal Dighi.
  • In future we have plans to turn Lal Dighi into a cultural centre where events can take place.
  • We have worked hard to improve the infrastructure in the State.
  • Where there is peace, there is prosperity. Where there is progress, there is festivity.
  • I extend my festive greeting to all. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
  • Lok Utsav will be celebrated in every block of the State in future. What Bengal thinks today, the world will think tomorrow.

The state government has decided to organise Lok Sanskriti Utsav for promoting folk artists.

If things go as planned, folk artists performing at the utsav would be paid more than their usual allowance of Rs 1,000 per performance.

The festival will be organised for three days and is likely to start from 24 December. Two venues have been selected for holding the festival, namely Princep Ghat and Lal Dighi, which is located near Writers’ Buildings.
