Like every year, Bengal Government commemorated International Mother Language Day today in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Deshapriya Park, Kolkata. Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister paid her tributes at Bhasha Shahid Smarak at 21se Udyan.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that the Government has decided to give recognition to Kurukh language and also form a committee for the recognition of Rajbongshi/Kamtapuri language. The committee will be headed by Nrisingha Prasad Bhaduri.
The CM expressed sadness at the fact that Bengali language is ignored today. “We have to respect all languages but why should we neglect Bangla,” she said.
Last year the Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the Bhasha Shahid Smarak at the Ekushe Udyan park, opposite MP Birla Planetarium here. It has been built in memory of the martyrs of the Language Movement or Bhasha Andolan in Bangladesh, who gave their lives for the cause of Bengali to be made the national language, on February 21, 1952.
সব ভাষাকে শ্রদ্ধা করুন, বাংলা ভাষাকে ভুলবেন নাঃ মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়
আজ আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস উপলক্ষে ভাষা শহীদদের স্মরণ করল রাজ্য সরকার। অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।
১৯৯৯ সালে ইউনেস্কো স্বীকৃতি দেওয়ার পর ২১ শে ফেব্রুয়ারি আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস হিসেবে পালিত হয়। পরে ২০০৮ সালে জাতীয়সংঘও এই দিনটিকে স্বীকৃতি দেয়।
মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, “মানুষ আজ বাংলা ভাষাকে ভুলতে বসেছে। আমাদের উচিত সব ভাষাকে শ্রদ্ধা করা, কিন্তু কেন আমরা বাংলা ভাষাকে ভুলে যাব।হিন্দি, উর্দু, গুরুমুখী, অল চিকি ভাষাকে আমরা মান্যতা দিয়েছি। আজ ভাষা দিবস উপলক্ষে আমরা কুরুক ভাষা কে মান্যতা দিচ্ছি। নৃসিংহপ্রসাদ ভাদুড়ির অধীনে একটি কমিটি গঠন করা হচ্ছে রাজবংশী/কামতাপুরি ভাষাকে মান্যতা দিতে”।
সবশেষে তিনি বলেন আজ বনশ্রীদি আমাদের মধ্যে নেই। তিনি আমাদের মধ্যে না থাকলেও তার গান আমাদের সাথে চিরকাল থাকবেন।
গত বছর মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বিড়লা প্ল্যানেটরিয়ামের বিপরীতে ২১শে উদ্যানে একটি ভাষা শহীদ স্মারকের উদ্বোধন করেন। ১৯৫২ সালের ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারি বাংলাদেশে ভাষা আন্দোলনে যারা শহীদ হয়েছিলেন তাদের স্মৃতিতে তৈরী হয়েছে এই স্মারক।
